February 28, 20251 yr When SU1 first came out there was an issue where if your MSFS2024 is installed in the default directory, some (if not all) will have an issue where it will reinstall every time you start the sim. Is that still the case?
February 28, 20251 yr Good question. Another issue is that the store version is installed in a folder with a ridiculously long name. This can make msfs2024 not even boot up (it did for me). I had to find the addon which itself had a long name and remove it. I believe it is safe to put Packages somewhere with a short path. And with 2020 this can prevent having to reinstall the whole sim. Microsoft recommended anyone in the 2020 beta to move the main folder. 5800X3D, RTX4070, 600 Watt, one or two 1440p 32" screens, 64 GB RAM, 4 TB PCle 3 NVMe, Warthog throttle, VKB NXT EVO stick, Honeycomb Alpha yoke, CH quad, 3 Logitech panels, 2 StreamDecks, Desktop Aviator Trim Panel. February 28, 20251 yr In 2024, when you run install for the first time, it does not give you a location choice. But I followed the advice carefully and to the letter in this video. Especially important is stuff starting at 1:08. As he says at 1:34 "you do this at your own risk". I did and it has worked well and continues to do so. I moved a few hundred gigabytes. But I guess it is possible to screw up and lose things. February 28, 20251 yr Author Thanks, I appreciate that, but I am too nervous to go down that road. 2024 is running well enough I don't want to jinx it. I only want to try SU1 if I know for certain I can leave my data in the default directory.
February 28, 20251 yr It should be safe to change the sim location. I’ve done it a few times after reinstalling 2024. 7950X3D | RTX 4090 | 64GB DDR5
