Cost of PMDG 747?

Hi, I was looking at the PMDG 747 for FSX, very well-done. I think I saw a figure but was a little surpised. I believe it was roughly 60 euros? Is that correct? Roughly 100 USD?Is it worth it?

When I bought it back in Oct it was 59 Euro's and I was charged $87.32. I would suspect it would be much more today and near $100. I think it's expensive for two aircraft (Cargo and Passenger versions) but one of those products I 'have' to have in my hanger as I respect PMDG's quality of work. For FSX, it requires a lot of computer power but it also comes in the FS9 flavor so you can still use it with older systems. Hope this helps.Best regards,Jim

The PMDG 747 is one of those aircraft that once you own it, you may end up flying it almost exclusively of anything else (except maybe other PMDG aircraft). It does not respond well to casual use. It takes a long time to learn its work flows, but then it will reward you with realistic flights. Certainly, it's an investment, but the cost defrays hundreds of man-hours of development that goes into making the PMDG models. That and the more 747's you buy, the closer we may get to the FSX PMDG 737, which is what I am really waiting for! As with any add-on purchase, you have to weigh the cost versus the benefit. There are some sim pilots for whom price is no object, in which case, I would suggest that you get every PMDG product you can afford. They do win AVSIM Gold Stars and Readers' Choice awards year after year. However, if $100 seems steep to you (and it does to me), then you have to ask yourself how much you want to participate in very long haul flights with a very massive aircraft (of course, you can always make your own short-hop jumbo-jet commuter runs, but even so, this ride needs a lot of runway, so you're not likely to use it for the Cranbrook-to-Osoyoos casino run). If this is for you, then the PMDG should definitely be the queen of your skies. Eat Kraft Dinners for supper for a week or two until you save up the one hundred clams. It's an amazing aircraft. If you like the challenge and details of flying a complex airliner, then it's as good as it gets. If you're more of a turn the key and fly type, you'll probably will regret the financial loss. Keep in mind they are about to release the MD-11 pretty soon, incase the 747 isn't your cup of tea. But I'm sure it won't be cheap either.Then comes the 737NG, which we are all waiting for. But these guys take FOREVER.

Geez, that's less than I paid when the dollar was worth a lot more. Wonder if they have lowered the price to USA customers? I should mention, I have bought from PCAviator before, and they send out emails regularly with 10% discounts on the weekends. I don't know if there return policy is as good as Flight1's though?

It's not really worth it for FSX. FSX is only useful if you fly out in the boonies in a Cub (not that there's anything wrong with that), otherwise the performance combined with the 747X is atrocious.

Most people would agree with me when I say that a complex airliner like the PMDG does not have good performance in the sim.

I wouldn't!! Could it be better, yes, but if you have a decent system config, you can still get an enjoyable flight!! Now if you are still on a P4 I would bypass this addon.

Hmmm, thank you for your opinions. How does it fair performance wise compared to the LvlD 767 for FSX? I use that and it's pretty much not flyable in the big 10 airports. Maybe I will wait for the 737...

Are all patches or updates negated by such a purchase or are they still available from PMDG?By reputation, this item obviously is a top of the line premium contribution, as are all of PMDG's. However, due to price I have chosen thus far to spread those funds out between other less expensive choices and fly the great freeware iFly 747 (NO, I am not equating the two, but I do think it is a dandy aircraft).However, at the recommended site and purchase price, I may rethink my options unless there is a negative side to the boxed version.
