I’m on MS store actually and I didn’t  get affected. Did they pulled it out before I fired 2024 yesterday?

  • Yep I just did this.  Exited the beta, waited for it to say Join again, then rebooted PC. Wiped LOL! It's way beyond a laughing matter.  I've been one of the few to defend this sim but what

Kind of funny seeing a highly successful gaming company totally screw their helpful/unpaid beta testers. Just think of the number of man-hours lost * the number of users recovering from this mess.

Fell victim to the phantom update and lost settings. As an adult still the only sim for me, back up in running in 10 minutes or so.

Are you sure you are still in the beta? If you left it when SU1 was released you don't have the issue.

LocalCache and SystemAppData\wgs make sense (the latter contains the control assignments). But is there anything useful in LocalState?

EDIT: LocalCache folder is 17.3GB. I'm wondering if it's enough to backup usercfg.opt and exe.xml.

What a mess. Maybe someone can answer this. I have a custom folder. I  re-installed the Inibuilds 350, and several airports. None are showing up. The only one showing up is when I re-installed the Fenix planes. They are there but not the liveries which I can plainly see are in the community folder. What's going on?

Head over here to vent your frustrations and ask questions....its an absolute dustbin fire (both the issue and the thread)...

Whilst I know people will bang on about "its a weekend and they need time off" blah blah, its telling that this issue occurred over 24 hours ago, has been known about by the development team for over 24 hours and yet there is still not a single announcement from Asobo or Microsoft on it, and the problem remains in place.

Of course it is part of the discussion, because if you opted out of the beta PRIOR starting the Xbox app, you can (could have) avoided the misery of this phantom update.

Tried to post at that Official Site thread, but it sys "it's solved" and I should only post if I had anything worth posting regarding the solution... Duh!

Anyway, my view of this all, honestly, is:

1) Truth is no one not IN the "beta" was affected; => MSOBO didn't infringe any rule!

2) The Steam users, even those on beta if I'm not wrong, weren't even affected; => I will probably go Steam for FS 2026 🙂

3) when we accepted to participate in the "beta" we accepted that we would be exposed to "dangers" up to having to reinstall the simulator - and thus the addons too... => "when the going get's tough the tough get's going..." it's what comes to my mind when I start feeling mad about MSOBO 😉

This is something I shouldn't forget, because I "signed" that too, and accepted it, so, I was up for the "dance", for the good, and for the not so good...

We're accustomed to participate in betas that we assume will be like full release products. That's one of the problems here too.

I took the chance to make a clean definition of my controller settings which were in a mess after the initial fight with their logic, and went a step back deleting my Cloud content and starting it all from scratch. Yet, in less than 30 min (including the reinstall of some of my addons) I could be ready for Departure!!! Heck! Less than 30 min to get a unique Flightsim like MSFS is when I spent ages trying to fine tune FSX and P3D ???? C'mon guys, we're not being fair !!!

Probably the worst loss were my FSLTL liveries, which are there in the Community folder just as all of the addons, but don't work? Before downloading it all again I'll have to check if there's some way to fix it...

I also exited the beta and will probably not join it again.

I'll end up expressing my sympathy for the ASOBO / MS SysOps teams which, as critic as I am about it's lousy flight dynamics is still among my preferred flight simulators ever! They have been receiving, since release date, mostly bad comments and strong critics on their work, and I think that really isn't fair!!!

MSFS 2024 is exploring techniques which are, like it or not, the Future being played Now! We should, I at least should, be glad and thankful for that!

Guys!  Let's be nice, or at least not this "negative" to those who, after all, are trying their best to give us what we dreamed about for ages !!!!

I  💕 MASOBO, (and Austin and the LR Team too, Austin, c'mon, don't get jealous !!! )

I am aware. probably some misunderstanding here. since you did opt out in time it came as no surprise that you were not effected and your configuration was not overwritten. I was trying to understand who and why some users were and others were not hit by the phantom "update"

I left beta when SU1 was released and today had this error. I haven't received any update but my settings were reverted.

Well, I then guess it is a independent effect. There were many reports of settings being reset already before, so we have to take care not mixing things up here.

Having read this thread, I prepared myself for disaster by doing all the backups necessary. I then went into the xbox app and removed myself from the beta program. It showed that my request to leave the beta was “pending” for about a minute and then showed complete.
At this point, I re-booted my computer and said a little prayer.

I got lucky. MSFS2024 started up normally without doing any updates, and everything appears to be running normally (knock on wood).

Thank you I will attempt to do this

Most important: it is the Xbox Insider App, not the classic Xbox App. If you open the latter BEFORE you opted out of the Beta, you will trigger the phantom update...

The one take away everybody affected should have:

NEVER use the default Community Folder location. Just create your own on a drive of your choice. Then in case something like this phantom update happens, you don't lose anything. You just have to take 5 minutes to repoint the reset sim to that custom location and restart it. That's it and you will have lost nothing.

I was afflicted as well, and the only things I had to do was retelling the sim where my community folder is, where the rolling cache is and then relink GSX and rerun the AutoFPS and TDI GTN installers to reinsert the startup commands in the exe.xml.

Took me 5 minutes. Way less than constantly ranting about the fact that I had to do it in the first place. 😉
