Mandatory 8.7 GB Update, MSFS 2024 won't even startup.

Hello,
victim of this update, impossible to reinstall FS2024 even after uninstalling the simulator.
I guess that having uninstalled the application, I'm no longer a beta user.
I never did figure out how to properly remove myself from this beta in the XBox insider.
I'm trying to reinstall FS2024 without success, and I keep getting the error whose number I've forgotten...
I guess I'll have to wait a few days (?) before I can reinstall the simulator....

  • Yep I just did this.  Exited the beta, waited for it to say Join again, then rebooted PC. Wiped LOL! It's way beyond a laughing matter.  I've been one of the few to defend this sim but what

Kind of funny seeing a highly successful gaming company totally screw their helpful/unpaid beta testers. Just think of the number of man-hours lost * the number of users recovering from this mess.

Still no news on the official forums other than it has been escalated.  But it seems the problem will still occur if you start up MSFS, as they haven't contained the issue yet.

It seems we have to wait for Monday morning for the staff to handle this problem.

Which leads me to another thought - why do so many of these issues happen just before the weekend when we have no chance of getting tech support?

Most important: it is the Xbox Insider App, not the classic Xbox App. If you open the latter BEFORE you opted out of the Beta, you will trigger the phantom update...

Thank you for the correction. You are correct, I left the beta using the Xbox Insider Hub.

Apologies to all - I am unable to edit my original post.

The one take away everybody affected should have:

NEVER use the default Community Folder location. Just create your own on a drive of your choice. Then in case something like this phantom update happens, you don't lose anything. You just have to take 5 minutes to repoint the reset sim to that custom location and restart it. That's it and you will have lost nothing.

I was afflicted as well, and the only things I had to do was retelling the sim where my community folder is, where the rolling cache is and then relink GSX and rerun the AutoFPS and TDI GTN installers to reinsert the startup commands in the exe.xml.

Took me 5 minutes. Way less than constantly ranting about the fact that I had to do it in the first place. 😉

Thankyou  Good Sir😁

Mine turned into a Sh _ _ Show, so i decided on doing a full clean install. Luckily i had installed 2024 on a NV drive so my community survived, Just a matter of an hour or 2 and

was back in business. I did remove myself from the beta before doing so. Done with that aspect...

Thanks for reading, but it doesn't work for me : after uninstalling the simulator, the folder Microsoft.Limitless_8wekyb3d8bbwe” no longer exists.
And if I reinstall from XBox, I always get the same error, which prevents me from continuing with the installation.

Do you guys FIRST opt into the beta via Xbox Insider Hub and only then trying to re-install?

So, lots of people who joined the Beta and have been warned explicitly that being in Beta means to be careful with their community folder and to expect the need to reinstall the game got surprised that indeed they should backup their community folder and have to reinstall the game.

People, if this happens, you only have a few minutes of additional hassle. If you not even know how to leave the Beta you really have no reason to complain about anything but yourself. This can happen when joining Beta, when leaving Beta and maybe when you get an update in Beta. You joined it, you were warned. But when this took you by surprise and unprepared, it was you who did something wrong.

Asobo didn't put a word yet on this second terrible fiasco, and we have some people here that has a good answer for everything. Good catch.

Missing the PMDG DC6 in MSFS 2024 (she's here, but...).

nobody has said their communication strategy and problem handling is text book quality.

That would be great but it's also affected people who left the beta long before this horrendous update, there are even reports of some people who were never in a beta being affected.

This situation is unacceptable, regardless of the warnings about being in the beta.
