Kind of funny seeing a highly successful gaming company totally screw their helpful/unpaid beta testers. Just think of the number of man-hours lost * the number of users recovering from this mess.

As if it exit the SU2 beta prior launching msfs 2024?

there is no SU2 beta yet that you can join or leave. you can leave SU1 beta, it appears only users enrolled in SU1 beta are effected. make sure to backup all settings before leaving the beta like this user described here:

%LOCALAPPDATA%\Packages\Microsoft.Limitless_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalCache %LOCALAPPDATA%\Packages\Microsoft.Limitless_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalState %LOCALAPPDATA%\Packages\Microsoft.Limitless_8wekyb3d8bbwe\SystemAppData\wgs

plus your COMMUNITY unless you use  a non-default path or addons linker.

Well, this was my experience about an hour ago so they have not fixed the issue.

I started MSFS2024 and the update began. It ended showing an error and 2024 would not start.

Ran ms store, went to my library and was able to finish the update.

Ran msfs2024 with no problem except that all my graphic settings had been reset and my community folder was empty. Control assignments were just fine.

I always keep a backup of community, exe.xml and usercfg.opt files.

Looking in current usercfg file, my Installed package locstion had been changed to the default rather than "F:MSFS2024" which I use.

I replaced the usercfg file and the exe.xml file and all was well. All my settings and my community folder were still there just not where the "updated" usercfg file thought.

All in all, the whoile process to get back to normal took ten minutes.

That is great for PC users with your knowledge level but I wonder how Non PC users are impacted...  Did they just wipe out millions of XBox users settings?

@RobJC we can only hope there is a detailed audit log and they can do a diff to see what changed but the most revealing aspect of all of this is they clearly aren't deploying changes to a staging environment or this would have been caught so did they really just push something like this to production with no staging or testing???  Rhetorical of course I know you can't speak for them but it sure seems there are multiple steps in the process that got missed...

This is actually quite bush league to EVER let something with this impact hit the production environment.

it turned out ito be some useless, phantom "update" . from Martials announcement in the last dev stream where he mentioned a possible ETA for march 20-22. we were all hoping and expecting this to be SU2 beta but instead they delivered another beta "update" mess, just 1 week short of aprils fools day.🤣

I am slightly amazed that the fact this «update» starts itself without the user doing anything. To me, THIS is the real bad thing here, this software obviously modifies stuff on our rig without asking. Or are those having the Xbox app in autostart without knowing it? Will find out soon...

I had my PC on all night but did not have the Xbox App open and I did not receive an auto update.  I was able to exit the beta, restart PPC and start 2024 without getting asked to update.

I think this official tester did test it and found it did work on his pristine system with no addons installed. it booted, it loaded, PRESS Play to continue message appeared, so all was fine. what could possibly go wrong?

I should have continued my current ebook instead of getting excited for SU2

I totally agree with you. The average user might find themselves up a creek without a paddle.  IMHO, this whole thing is bush league - something like this should never be allowed to happen - not with an organization like MS/Asobo

The deafening silence from MS/Asobo is a serious and continuous issue (we've been here before...), apart from one post in a thread on the official forums late last night there has been absolutely zero communication since, not even a banner stating what they're doing, updates with progress, what to avoid doing etc etc. And don't give me "but it's the weekend" argument, this is a 24/7 Server Based Simulation not a Mon-Fri affair so they must have people working on this alongside weekend staff to communicate to the userbase.

Too add to the bush league vibe, as of one hour ago discussion on Asobo forum in the rogue release thread folks are claiming it is STILL dishing out the bad release.  Outright borderline criminal negligence if that is the case.

I’d only just sorted out the random freezes I’d been having in my sim over the past 3-4 weeks, this week. Got one flight completed on Tuesday evening. Went to fire it up today and noticed that all my add-ons were missing from my community folder and then read the thread on here saying about the rogue update. How frustrating. Re-installed most add-ons, then got another freeze 2 hours into a flight. I’m ready to throw the towel in on this sim. I spend more time trying to sort out issues with it rather than enjoying it. I understand it’s a relatively new sim, but surely it could have waited another 12-18 months before release to ensure a stable and enjoyable experience.

I'm not in the beta, and a few hours ago opened 2024 only to discover the Longitude was AWOL--the store said I needed to install 2024 Premium Deluxe, which I had installed in toto a month and a half ago or so now with no issue until today.   The option to install PD edition was in the Store, I tried it, it didn't fix anything so ended up with an uninstall/reinstall, at which point needed to reset up custom camera views and thankfully that was all that was hosed my controllers' settings seem okay so far.

Well, there we have it. Just tested it now, nothing gets self updated as long as you do not run any Xbox app I guess. I was also able to opt out of the beta just now and then nothing happens. MSFS2024 starts up as normal.

Having read this thread, I prepared myself for disaster by doing all the backups necessary. I then went into the xbox app and removed myself from the beta program. It showed that my request to leave the beta was “pending” for about a minute and then showed complete.
At this point, I re-booted my computer and said a little prayer.

I got lucky. MSFS2024 started up normally without doing any updates, and everything appears to be running normally (knock on wood).
