My guess would be that you'll have to reinstall ALL of your addons that resided in the Community folder 😕

Unless you're using some sort of "Cloud" backup solution in your PC? Do you have OneDrive active for cloud backups of your system and apps, even better if associated with the same MS account you use for the sim?

that is not the problem Hans and I are facing, we simply cannot launch the sim. No title screen, no nothing. Same effect after reinstall. It just ignores the launch icon or start menu start. We cannot even get to the title screen...Even after a complete delete and reinstall. Totally unresponsive in trying to open MS2024

  • Yep I just did this.  Exited the beta, waited for it to say Join again, then rebooted PC. Wiped LOL! It's way beyond a laughing matter.  I've been one of the few to defend this sim but what

Kind of funny seeing a highly successful gaming company totally screw their helpful/unpaid beta testers. Just think of the number of man-hours lost * the number of users recovering from this mess.

  • Let me rephrase that: "We are so incompetent that there is a chance - meaning that we are not entirely sure of that... we cannot reproduce it but it can happen... we say it in that way simply because

I had all my stuff backed up (I am a developer by trade), but the primary issue is not losing settings or even the community folder. Some of us including Hans and myself are completely locked out of even launching FS2024. Totally unresponsive.

Well, regarding that "lock":

.) were you in the beta ? And if so did you try to exit from the beta ?

.) did you restart the PC since the update took place ?

.) was FS2024 installed into the default folders ?

Oh, sorry - now I read it as I should have since the first posts 😕

Well, let me think about it and maybe return with some clues...

EDIT: Could you do s system restore to a valid snapshot preceding the update?

What's the use of reinstalling these add-ons if we even cannot get FS2024 to start?

Another try: DELETE "UserCfg.opt" and try to start the sim

than to see the ridiculousness of some of the comments of Asobo's white knights on damage control.... 🤣

Do they ever learn?  How many times now?  And stuff some people using the excuse of 'you are enrolled in a beta!'.  This still shouldn't happen.

It appears this isn't even SU2 beta anyway, but just some 'backend' preparation for people on the beta program.  No in-depth explanation given.

I can only say this smacks of more incompetence again.  Then again, I have come to expect it now.

Another nice mess they’ve gotten us into! This is why my confidence levels with anything that say are so low, I take everything with a massive pinch of salt. I mean it’s only a game and I’m not that bothered, but it’s still annoying.

how boring this must have been for you, considering you are un-installing since 2012 🤣

very nice.

I was lucky and had not launched it yet. I left the beta just now and my sim is fine. A bullet dodged

Moral of the story: Set a custom path for the community folder so that it's not wiped again next time they inevitably screw up.

exactly what MS/Asobo (and I) 🤣 have recommended since the very first MSFS 2020 beta back in 2019.

The damage is done even before you try and run 2024 - it is the update in MS Store that triggers the changes - Steam users seem to be OK

I reset my community folder back to where it should be through the My Library settings option - most of the main settings seem to have been preserved except rolling cache.

No more Beta for me - this kind of mistake is unforgiveable.

FS2024 now has become unplayable for me.

why does nobody use the official FAQ full of tips and tricks for this and most other issues. seems like the best kept support secret. a must read for anyone who feels brave enough to participate in any MSFS beta.

Genuine question. Is it possible to install a beta version as a second copy? I don't do betas as a general rule so I honestly don't know, but it strikes me that it would be a worthwhile option for something like 2024 if possible, given that it doesn't take up vast amounts of storage these days.

And yes, I realise this wouldn't help anybody already hit by this, but maybe going forward?

Ryzen 9 7900X, Corsair H150 AIO cooler, 64 Gb DDR5, Asus X670E Hero m/b, 3090ti, 13Tb NVMe, 8Tb SSD, 16Tb HD, 55" Philips 4k HDR monitor, EVGA 1600w ps, all in Corsair 7000D airflow case. Sims in use - 2020, 2024, XP-12 and -11, FSX/SE, P3Dv4.5 and v5.4. DCS and AFS2 installed but rarely used

I doubt it, since most configurations are stored in partially protected files and spread over many places incl. registry settings. with xplane this has always been possible to use as many versions as possible, even concurrently, just like simultaneous chess game playing.
