@haraldo, as you can see you’ve had several responses to your request. I can see your email address which is for a different European country.

I know a Swiss friend who spends winter in Tenerife. Perhaps you do something similar.

If he's that inexperienced in "flying" the sim, he's probably never heard of Avsim before he Googled around for help. I don't think it's suspicious at all.

Personally, I've made lots of really good friends in RL directly as a result of the initial contact being made via some sim-related activity. For instance - in the early days of Falcon and Su27 Flanker I went (from the UK) to a couple of net meets hosted in Holland. Accommodation was free - as the local hostel (which also had the main hall/venue) was run by one of the organisers' father. We just paid for the food and drink (it had a bar!!). That particular friend went on to become a fully fledged transport pilot.

Similarly (Su27 related) - an online combatant happened to be in the Greek Air Force. When he heard I was on a flight for a holiday in one of the Greek Islands, he was mortified that we hadn't asked him first - he would have put us all up in Athens. It turns out that our return flight to the UK was actually piloted by his old Air Force flying instructor.

There are more examples of the friendliness and generosity I've met with over the years - but you get the drift. The odd online spat gets all the attention, but the real [positive] power of the sim community often goes unacknowledged.

Before taking a flight I first would like to know that person… Having had contact for a longer period would be my first priority.

Not sure I'm understanding what you mean here (!). It was a regular scheduled passenger flight back to the UK. His old flying instructor had left the Air Force and worked for the airline (though I've long forgotten which one it was).

Having helped an American here on AvSim back in the late 90s and helping him with flight sim we used to chat via email. It culminated with him inviting me to spend a week with his family in his North Carolina home back in 1998. Having never visited the US it was a great experience.

I flew Manchester - JFK - Cincinnati/Covington - Raleigh/Durham. A very pleasant week experiencing a different culture. Loved it. I was even lucky enough to see a BA Concorde depart JFK and it was back in England before I reached KRDU. 🤣

Flight sim is a great way of finding new friends. This request seems perfectly legitimate.

Yeah, it looks legit. For better or worse, I tend to be overly cautious with proposals that seem too good to be true or, like in this case, just unusually curious.

I spent a week around Lelystad, people I knew just from flight simming that I had met online.  I drove them about as I used to live in the Netherlands.  It was a great week and unforgettable.  It is a pretty normal, helpful community.  

I guess the worst thing that could happen is I have a short trip to a very nice island that I vaguely know already.  

I've dropped this dude a message.

Like you I’m a naturally cautious person. If something appears to be too good to be true all the alarm bells start ringing. 🤣

I know pictures can be photoshopped but recent pictures would help. PM for his real name to check on Facebook (to check his friends) wouldn't hurt either. Asking him to send $1 by way of Paypal would help too.
