XP 12 clouds look terrible because they are blurry.  This is not a problem with MSFS 2020/2024, or even DCS World. The blurry clouds are unique to XP 12.  It's like your friend left their glasses on the table, and you picked up your friend's glasses and put them on even though their glasses totally don't match your vision at all.

It's something that LR hasn't figured out since the beginning of XP 12. XP 12 clouds have so much catching up to do, to catch up to MSFS 2024 clouds.  And before anybody says the video above isn't 12.2.0, here is 12.2.0 from LR themselves, and you can see the clouds are still blurry (even in the portrait they are using for the Youtube video, you can obviously see that the clouds are blurry):

And clouds are so vital to flight simulation. It really ruins the experience, with the blurry clouds, IMO. But anyways, this is my opinion - everyone may have a different opinion.

I got news for you guys: I have yet to step outside my house or look out the window of an aircraft and think that ANY simulator is delivering High Fidelity cloudscapes.

We need to remember that Simulation, particularly the visual part, is just as much about Suspension of DISbelief as it is about anything else.

Er, people who are interested in flight simulation and the prospect of continued support for our hobby down the years? As usual it will probably turn into another miserable MSFS 2020 vs MSFS 2024

This is why I don't really use it. Who cares if the physics and ground are so good, when objects are popping in front of you? Or melted buildings and blobs of trees are surrounding an airport. You can

The person responsible for the clouds, is the same person who gave Asobo the information on how to make the clouds and lighting look more realistic in MSFS 2020, and his efforts were applauded by many in these very forums.  And he did it...for free.

That's nice, but the clouds still look blurry to me in XP 12. It's something that XP 12 can improve on. Again, it's my opinion.

If this is true, explains how X-Plane is trying to imitate MSFS but with one major problem which is going to be a big wall for Laminar : Technology.

By the way  Goran M , are you the developer of HotStart TBM ?

Poor Asobo....except the great Battle of MSFS 2020 vs 2024 now comes the old school match league with X-Plane users with their "new" clouds

Maya, who is an x plane developer, is the person responsible, and he made an add on called enhanced skyscape for X Plane. He then volunteered his environmental figures for the add on to asobo, who used them. Much to the applause and delight of the MSFS community. Austin then hired him to work on the lighting and clouds in x plane, without knowing his work was being used in MSFS. Austin really doesn’t care. He just hires the best people for the job. This is why it’s puzzling that Abrams thinks the clouds look bad, when the exact same data is being used in MSFS

i am sorry , but this is not true ( in my personal opinion of course ). I was a dedicated hardcore X-Plane user since XP 9 and i am familiar with all their progress and evolution. Like it or not MSFS brought a new era on Flight Simulation and they are the Leaders.

By the way you created one of the best planes on X-Plane which i used most of the times.

I promise you, we don’t hate MSFS. And we don’t ignore what asobo have done.  It’s certain members in the simming community, on both sides, that create the toxicity.

Thank you.  I’m glad you’re enjoying it.

so a thread here on avsim once again deviated to "my sim is better than your sim".

When will people realize that nobody care about the sim you use?

You prefer P3D, XP, msfs or msfs24? good for you as long as your choice brings you enjoyment but read my lips: NOBODY CARE!

You will never convaince anybody here that the choice you made must be the choice others have to make. you will never convaince anybody to switch sim.

So you are clearly wasting your time and you are annoying people by rotting threads.

Ok, my rant is over 😉

I must say in this thread we seem to have a very civil conversation about X-Plane (although it is the wrong forum). That's a good thing👍

I have to say that X-Plane 12 looks significantly better than I thought it would do, and the life like atmosphere...WOW! it is years ahead of MFSF.

This video shows you what I mean when I say XP12 just seems more alive.

The road traffic looks more realistic in that XP12 video than it does in MSFS 2020. To be honest, I never use default road traffic in MSFS 2020 (or any other previous version of Microsoft Flight Simulator), because I think that it looks rubbish.
