July 2, 200817 yr Author >> Comments on the video:1:05 minute mark: Notice the round bullseye-looking thing on the ground. That's a cemetery. Notice how the pilot uses the cemetery as a guide, and starts most of his turn there. That cemetery is in my scenery, so that you can use it as a visual marker when flying this approach.2:30 mark: notice the highway cloverleaf--the pilot keeps this on his left side as he is turning to line up with the runway. I also put in the cloverleaf in my scenery. It still has a lot of work yet to do, though.RhettFS box: E8500 (@ 3.80 ghz), AC Freezer 7 Pro, ASUS P5E3 Premium, BFG 8800GTX 756 (nVidia 169 WHQL), 4gb DDR3 1600 Patriot Cas7 7-7-7-20 (2T), PC Power 750, WD 150gb 10000rpm Raptor, Seagate 500gb, Silverstone TJ09 case, Vista Ultimate 64ASX Client: AMD 3700+ (@ 2.6 ghz), 7800GT Rhett 7800X3D ♣ 96 GB G.Skill Flare ♣ Gigabyte 4090 ♣ Crucial P5 Plus 2TB
July 2, 200817 yr Author >What is this hi-res mesh you are referring to ?I use FSGenesis mesh. You really need hi-res mesh to bring out the hills on this approach.I think Jozef Kusters did some freeware mesh of Central America, too, and it should work in FSX (it's FS2004 mesh). It is in the file library here at AVSIM.With hi-res mesh, the MHTG approach really takes on a new dimension.RhettFS box: E8500 (@ 3.80 ghz), AC Freezer 7 Pro, ASUS P5E3 Premium, BFG 8800GTX 756 (nVidia 169 WHQL), 4gb DDR3 1600 Patriot Cas7 7-7-7-20 (2T), PC Power 750, WD 150gb 10000rpm Raptor, Seagate 500gb, Silverstone TJ09 case, Vista Ultimate 64ASX Client: AMD 3700+ (@ 2.6 ghz), 7800GT Rhett 7800X3D ♣ 96 GB G.Skill Flare ♣ Gigabyte 4090 ♣ Crucial P5 Plus 2TB
July 3, 200817 yr Thanks. I'll have to check it out. To tell you the truth, even in Google Earth, those little hills don't look that pronounced.
July 3, 200817 yr Author I almost said, "Don't install my scenery without hi-res mesh installed" :D It's really not worth it without it. It'll just look like some kind of flat no-challenge hillside then.I am going to do more work on MHTG (some gmax work), because it's such a neat airport. It'll probably be several months though.RhettFS box: E8500 (@ 3.80 ghz), AC Freezer 7 Pro, ASUS P5E3 Premium, BFG 8800GTX 756 (nVidia 169 WHQL), 4gb DDR3 1600 Patriot Cas7 7-7-7-20 (2T), PC Power 750, WD 150gb 10000rpm Raptor, Seagate 500gb, Silverstone TJ09 case, Vista Ultimate 64ASX Client: AMD 3700+ (@ 2.6 ghz), 7800GT Rhett 7800X3D ♣ 96 GB G.Skill Flare ♣ Gigabyte 4090 ♣ Crucial P5 Plus 2TB
July 6, 200817 yr This is a rough approach I did using FSGenesis the other day. I'm going to try it again in the PMDG 747 with a strong crosswind. :D
July 7, 200817 yr Author >This is a rough approach I did using FSGenesis the other day.>I'm going to try it again in the PMDG 747 with a strong>crosswind. :D>> Why don't you try it with my scenery? You're using the default in your video. The default scenery is not very accurate. Also turn your mesh complexity up to 100 for this approach. Looks like yours is turned town. Also it doesn't look like you are doing the procedure turn, you just kind of flew nap-of-earth and in, which is not possible real life with a big aircraft due to terrain.I'm not criticizing you :) I am just pointing out some things that might make it more fun and white-knuckle for you.RhettFS box: E8500 (@ 3.80 ghz), AC Freezer 7 Pro, ASUS P5E3 Premium, BFG 8800GTX 756 (nVidia 169 WHQL), 4gb DDR3 1600 Patriot Cas7 7-7-7-20 (2T), PC Power 750, WD 150gb 10000rpm Raptor, Seagate 500gb, Silverstone TJ09 case, Vista Ultimate 64ASX Client: AMD 3700+ (@ 2.6 ghz), 7800GT Rhett 7800X3D ♣ 96 GB G.Skill Flare ♣ Gigabyte 4090 ♣ Crucial P5 Plus 2TB
July 8, 200817 yr You are right, I certainly did not fly a procedure turn or anything procedure thats for sure. I am still learning how to fly by the instruments so for that run it was just by hand. Mesh complexity was at 100 already!I'll get better at it one day, hehe. :)
July 8, 200817 yr Fly by instruments... man, I'll tell you - doing ILS autoland with PMDG 747-400X is piece of cake compared to any VFR...which mesh do I get from FSGenesis - with the way they have all the areas covered on their site - I'm not sure which one actually covers Tegucigalpa ???Thanks.Jacob.
July 8, 200817 yr Author >which mesh do I get from FSGenesis - with the way they have>all the areas covered on their site - I'm not sure which one>actually covers Tegucigalpa ???>The actual archive is fsgdem_03.zip on FSGenesis site.I installed the DVD's from FSGenesis to make it easy on myself. If you do a manual install you would,1) go to www.fsgenesis.com2) select "Store Login" and enter your username and password3) select "my fsx downloads"4) select "World Terrain Mesh for FSX"5) you can either a: download WRDEM-X_WEST.exe (the auto-installer), or5a) or download fsgdem_03.zipAnyway the mesh files are in FSGenesis's "World Terrain Mesh for FSX" category. They're not in with the Mexico mesh.RhettFS box: E8500 (@ 3.80 ghz), AC Freezer 7 Pro, ASUS P5E3 Premium, BFG 8800GTX 756 (nVidia 169 WHQL), 4gb DDR3 1600 Patriot Cas7 7-7-7-20 (2T), PC Power 750, WD 150gb 10000rpm Raptor, Seagate 500gb, Silverstone TJ09 case, Vista Ultimate 64ASX Client: AMD 3700+ (@ 2.6 ghz), 7800GT Rhett 7800X3D ♣ 96 GB G.Skill Flare ♣ Gigabyte 4090 ♣ Crucial P5 Plus 2TB
