Ships & Boats In MSFS 2024

Featured Replies

So how can you change the density of ship traffic from GAIST in MSFS 2024?

best regards, Mathias

I really like Seafront in FS24, but at the moment it's only doing specific areas, but they work well. Lee

  • Works fine for me in 2024.

Didn’t the dev specifically say it’s not working with 2024?

GAIST works, I've used it, as other people have mentioned in the thread as well. It's just not officially supported.

You can't AFAIK. Though maybe the ships option under graphics settings replaces it. It's not a slider tho

I never got it working. I'll wait a few months to what comes along. For now my 2024 testing is completed and sim deleted.

MSFS

MSFS2024 have all you need for real time marine traffic, but it is still full mess after almost a half year after release.

You can see boat name plates, but no boats. AIS data includes boat type and size information, but that information is ignored (passenger ship, sailing boat, oil tanker, etc.). If you are lucy, you can see a boat, but it is flying and totally wrong type.

It is very hard to understand why they have not fix it. Showing generic boat types would be good start. Ship model picker could be added later.

One solution could be a AIS data bridge between MSFS2024 and GAIST? GAIST have working AIS data support, but they lost their AIS data provider. I have understand that there are ship model copyright problems. This solution would keep MSFS2024 and GAIST separated -> no copyright problems.

GAIST worked fine for me in 2024, though there does seem to be an issue with ships stuck sideways in canals or spinning which I thought were issues ASOBO needed to resolve rather than GAIST.

The only reason I'm not using it is that my system is right on the edge, performance wise in 2024 and so GAIST is one of the things I unfortunately have to forfeit.

I could be wrong but I think that's the Asobo generated ships that do that. Never seen one since turning off Ships under general and just letting Gaist do it's thing

Sorry I'm still a bit confused about the settings. What has to be selected to deactivate the default ship traffic and activate GAIST traffic? (2024)

best regards, Mathias

You need to unzip the folder GAIST_V6_1 from fsim.to and drop the two included folders gaist-ultra-v6_1 and gaist-ship-routes_v1_2_1 in your Community folder.

In settings general there is a toggle to turn Ships on or off. this only applys to Asobo AI ships, you can leave it on I choodse not to as I don't think Asobo have quite got the hang of AI aircraft yet so I can't see them being too hot on AI ships in a flight sim😂

There is no enabling gaist traffic if you've got the right folders in the right place it should be working try flying around an area like southampton / Portsmouth / Isle of Wight. was doing that today and had everything cuise ships, warships,  tankers, container ships, yachts IOW ferries and even the little hovercraft.

It may also depend on lod settings etc, I can check out my settings tomorrow but for me it just works and it's a great addition.

Here's my settings (the only one's I think that matter) 1st image is the 2 folders you need in your community folder, mine are linked as I use Addons Linker but that won't make any difference if you just drop the folders in normally
The remainng images are of the settings "General tab" "Graphics" and "Global Rendering quality"
Sorry for the size of the images it took me an hour to figure out how to get these on here!

Just to note that the sim needs to be restarted for any changes to take effect, such as setting Sea Traffic to Off or Photogrammetry to Off... GAIST works fine with Sea Traffic set to Off but Seafront Simulations requires at least Low but this will then display Asobo default Sea Traffic as well, at least that's what I'm seeing.

Actually the choices are off, low, medium, high, and ultra. I have found that with the OFF setting, the MS2024 vessels disappear, and a few -- but not many -- Gaist ships show up in some places (New York, Miami, possibly others). But with the setting at LOW, many Gaist ships appear all over the world and few, if any, MS2024 ships -- a pretty good solution as far as I'm concerned, because the Gaist ships are often moving whereas the MS2024 ones aren't.

I also discovered that the ships appear in Little Nav Map only when the latest version (3.0.17 64-bit) is installed.

My bad! I swicthed it to OFF back yonder and I've not touched it since. The other tell from wht I can see is Gaist ships & boats etc leave a wake when moving and have smoke from thier stacks where necessary.
