Airfoillabs Cessna 172 radio panel VOR morse codes

Featured Replies

Hi pilots,

I would love to buy the Airfoillabs Cessna 172 - it´s the best of the best, that´s the Piston Duke of X-Plane! - but before buying I want to know a specific certain detail about this plane...

Can the volume knob of the radio panel be operated by me to make morse codes and beeps of VOR stations, beacons and middle and inner markers be audible?

Thank you very much in advance for your answers! 🙂

Default feature, so unless AFL messed up badly, their 172 should support it.

Hmmmmmm not sure not sure anymore about the radio sounds 😉 Today I stumbled upon one YouTube comment from 5 months ago with someone mentioning "GTN 750 and NDB audio is not functional" (which are probably navigation beacon morse codes, while the GTN 750 is a specific addon I am not interested in anyway because it´s too modern in a retro Cessna and uninteresting for VOR navigation. LCD-screens are reserved for jets in my world *ggg).

But it´s an absolute awesome plane and can even be equipped with tundra tires and vortex generators and many other customizing features. Exciting! Unfortunately almost all new reviews are for the Garmin 1000 NG version, while the analog version reviews are for it´s ancient absolute outdated X-Plane10 or 11 version, and not for the brandnew and overhauled and remastered XP12 version.

Is the analog version of the C172 having all the exact same tuning and customizing options like tundra tires, LED-landing-lights, removal of wheel fairing and other goodies?

As I find 172s too boring, I do not own the AFL version, so I can not say.

Still, if navaid audio works in the default 172, it should also work in AFL's and if it does not, it's a massive bug that better gets fixed sooner than later.

Boring... hm... I thought that too and therefore was just flying the most complex and most epic study-level airliners for years, like the Fenix Airbus or the HotStart Challenger and stuff like that.

But Black Square released their Piston Duke a while ago. That made me come to the conclusion when getting a fully to the core simulated GA plane with every engine feature simulated, every piston able to fail, every spark plug able to foul or fail, every single electric circuit and circuit breaker simulated and every single light bulb in the whole plane simulated - that is absolute awesome and no longer boring at all. It´s almost like buying a car. A flying car... It´s like owning a real awesome retro-Cessna.

Cats of my age must slow down a bit and sometimes fly just for fun to enjoy the forests and national parks with huge bushflight wheels mounted on the plane, and not only fly jets. 😺

If that kind of fidelity is what you're after, get any Reality Expansion Pack and in particular the SIAI Marchetti 260D that features one by default. The 260's most distinct feature is that it's actually a lot of fun to fly compared to a 172 and that it's probably the best all around piston powered touring GA aircraft one can find for X-Plane.
