We are dangerously close to photorealism

I just open Screenshot controls window (View drop-down menu) and set the fixed exposure value, usually around 14, +/- 0.5, more or less. That way the exposure doesn't change. I always chase perfect brightness of the outside environment, versus bright cockpits. In real life, if the outside environment is bright, cockpit will not be, due to the human eye dynamic range, and adaptation, and that is what LR wanted to achieve initially. But they forgot that computer monitors and generally displays can't reproduce that effect. Luckily they fixed dark cockpit in the beta, so I can freely fix to an EV value, and enjoy the whole flight without thinking "jeez this is bright", or "jeez this is dark".

You can limit the exposure via dataref ("ev100max" or so, see DataRefTool).

No paintkit yet and still need to get rid of the green glass effect - irritates me!

Mind that, when operating the aircraft, a lot of things that appear to be bugs are actually features of the real thing. Rico followed the flight manual pretty much to the tee.

Blimey, I have just installed XP12 but it looks NOTHING like that!  It is dowdy and cartoony with the map enhancement tool.  Your screenshots look HDR but mine is so flat!

A week and a half ago my XP12 looked poor.  Today I can only agree it is almost photo realistic.  A couple of photos crossing the English channel at different times.

Someone complained about no cumulus clouds in another thread. This is how the sim looked for me today flight out of Punta Arena in Chili to Antartica - I guess these are not cumulus. Not sure you can ask for better than this!

Punta Arena in Chili

That must have been a spicy departure!

Yeah needed some spice before it got frozen solid in the big white of Antartica! According to the dictionaries Chile is a variation in the spelling of Chilli, some reckon it means child, others the Chili you eat and some an cold lands end or a country in South America! Take your pick! Either way some really interesting flying to be had in that country - highly recommended.

Good pick  Litjan - I need new glasses!

Flight from Punta Arena in Chile down to Port Williams in Tierra del Fuego-Patagonia. Cloud presentation and ambient lighting was simply totally believable, even got light snow on arrival at Port Williams fine drifting snow which began accumulating in patches as you watched. No more StarWars in the rain either looked pretty realistic too me as well. Tailwind of 29 kts all the way turbulence well modelled,
