Didn't they just release a city update for both sims? When I look into your post history, I seriously think you need to touch some grass.

Kind of shows the agenda here.

I couldn't use SU2 until 14 due to serious bugs, but I would still say it is a wonderful product.

Hyperbole.

Sorry to break it to you, v2020 is still running and still receiving updates, unlike the previous MS flight sims.

And again, if you take what Jorg actually said, rather than frantically cherry picking a few words to distort the meaning, you'll see that he (and Phil Spencer) are talking about the franchise, NOT the version.

And, hey, it IS entirely possible that they envisioned a 'versionless" ongoing, continually developed, cloud-based product like, say, Microsoft 365.

But like M365, MSFS is still utterly dependent on a constant stream of revenue to keep that "support" and those "upgrades" coming. Heck, it needs constant revenue just to keep the servers running WITHOUT any changes 😉

So again (again), I submit that anyone who thought MSFS was going to be cost-free for "a decade" wasn't actually thinking very deeply.

clarification

I would actually be willing to pay for a MSFS365, yearly something like 50-70$ to keep everything going and the updates flowing. Similar to Office365. Based on the hours I spend in the sim per year, this would still be a rather cheap hobby.

I’d be willing to pay for them just to fix the AI, ATC and object LOD.

Yeah, I considered Game Pass, but of all the titles on there, I only play MSFS, so it ends up being rather too expensive for me.

If they offered MSFS for 1 dollar or so a month I'd seriously consider it.

I think the title that REALLY needs a revenue change is DCSW. That free 2 play model is obviously a brutal treadmill to be running on...

Exactly 🙂 ... the usual suspects feigning concern about this (predictably on negative threads) are grasping at straws, in their usual attempts to denigrate MSFS.

Now what would have been a very unacceptable action by MS/Asobo is to stop supporting 2020 and forcing everyone to move to 2024 for a price. But that didn't happen, 2020 is obviously supported by MS/Asobo for multiple more years (and I was gladly using it alongside 2024 for the first three ish months since 2024's release). The fact that some/most add-on developers are switching to develop only for 2024 is a free market business decision on their part, just as most of them chose earlier to abandon other sim platforms. To blame MS/Asobo for that is rather silly.

Agree.

It will be interesting to see how MS decide to handle the inevitable "Final Release version" of v2020, whenever that may happen.

Arguably, they could keep it running as long as the 2020 MS Marketplace generates enough revenue to support itself.

But the costs for a streaming service are relatively high compared to the cost of a one time download of P3D or FSX.

Perhaps v2020's eventually low price will become affordable to people in countries where the currency exchange isn't favorable, and maybe that will extend the life span...? There are a LOT of folks who live in those countries, so hopefully that becomes a viable option for them, especially if they can get their hands on the also relatively inexpensive Xbox to run it.

IDK - these are literally uncharted waters for Flight Sim (the streaming aspect), so we'll have to wait and see.

In the meantime, the "new" upgraded MSFS appears to be successful enough that we'll be flying it for quite some years to come.

Things are looking good for all of us, even those that don't quite realize it 😎

As long as Asobo isn't involved, I am in.

Dunno mate, admittedly it’s been a while since I’ve been in a UK pub, but if the same punter pulled up a seat every few weeks just to lay out to drinkers of a beer all of the ways that it’s awful, how the brewery are incompetent and scamming them, tried to rally all the punters not yet drinking that beer to boycott it, and tossed in a casual remark about the moon landings being fake, I don’t think anyone calling him a prat would get hit.

OK, you've said your piece--over, and over, and over again.  By repeatedly beating the dead horse, you're now entering developer-bashing territory.

Enough already.

They really are. XP going from strength to strength, MS stretching the envelope in every direction, just great times to be in the hobby. Good to remember this from time to time👍🏻

Depends, you didn't factor in if he was buying people rounds or not...  If he is buying they may allow him to spew all the nonsense he likes 😂
