Reducing Startup programs.

Recommended Posts

Guys,I'm looking for a program that can end all non-essential background programs. Any advice. Windows seems to be running far to many applications n the background and I have no idea what half of them are. Currently running 59!Also - how do I stop programs automatically loading in the quickstart menu ?ThanksEric

Didn't say if you were running XP or Vista but in XP..Try Enditall or Enditall2For keeps, you can use MSconfig or.... ???? too early to think.. I'm sure someone will fill in the blank :-)You can delete others from the "startup" in your start/program selections. You can also right click on "programs/explore all users" also. You can also check and control auto processes runningby going to start/run and type in "services.msc" Be careful, some things depend on others and stopping one could mess up others etc. highlight process and right click, go to properties to see all that applies.Be careful..

There is another program called FSAutostart, you can try this link, but it didn't work fo me, http://www.kensalter.com/fsautostart. Here's another link. http://www.softpedia.com/get/Tweak/System-...AutoStart.shtml. FSAutostart has a help function that will assist you in deciding what services to shut down. 1. Click Start, click Run, type MSCONFIG in the Open box, and then click OK. 2. On the General tab, click Selective Startup. 3. Under Selective Startup, click to clear the following check boxes:

I have tried a pristine environment by not loading/starting these programs with no noticeable effect. I guessed that since the majority are quiescent, awaiting an event, that they are not real consumers of resources. Events such as polling other PCs on a LAN could cause some brief hit in fs9/fsx. If you are sure of the lack of need for these things, blocking them during FS9/FSX operations might help some. Each system carries a balance of CPU/Memory/Disk load that makes them all unique.Let us know any before-after data. Might inspire me to try again since I now use FSX.Regards,Dick BoleyA PC, an LCD, speakers, CH yoke

A general good rule of thumb is, if is addresses hardware, keep it, else it will generally start by itself.
