Visual Spinning Of Jet Engine Fan blades

Recommended Posts

I posted this note in another forum, but was wondering if anyone had an explanation.Basically, there is a big difference between the way the PMDG, LevelD, default MS, and other jet engine fan blades spin in FSX, and how they used to spin in FS9. In FSX, they look like they are shaking back and forth. More of an agitating (washing machine) look, than circular spinning. This is very noticeable on engine shutdown. Rathar than a nice decline, and spool-down effect they "shake" until they just stop dead. In the FS9 version, you would see the gradual spool-down, and the fans spinning gradually down until stopping... even windmilling a bit.Is this just an FSX "feature", or is there something that can be done to improve the look? Thanks in advance,John

John,I hadn't noticed this "feature". Yes it looks weird. Probably a FSX "feature". I can't say that it's bothering me, because I seldom look into the engines. The props are better animated though :-)Ulf B

I havent noticed this shaking. I think the spool down in fsx is much much better than the spool down in fs9. If you compare the two, the fsx one takes much longer to spool down and slowly come to a stop, where as the fs9 one takes about 15 seconds to go from on to stopped.I wish there was a way to change this in fs9 native planes that I have in fsx, because it is much more realistic than in FS9.

There are some major differences between how FSX handles turbine blades in FSX...FS9 models used in FSX mostly work as designed...FSX aircraft who's modelers haven't caught on to the fact that turbines no longer use the prop0_still, _slow and _fast animation tags are going to have 'washing machine animations...'Turbines now use the N1_0_still, _slow and _blurred tags, and should be keyframe animated 360
