Aftermath :(

Recommended Posts

Guest kinetic

At 19:37 local time, Virtual Boeing 747-400 "N747KA" went into an uncontrolled spin and crashed about 20 miles form the airport. Weather was good, light winds, clouds where presents with moderate icing.Cause of crash: Overstress when airspeed indicator went to 0 and the autothrottle tried to compensate by accelerating the plane. The real speed (GPS speed) was in fact way above the structural speed and disaster followed when the body of the airplane broke up.Reconstruction of the insident showed that, alltough pitot heat is supposed to be automatic this is NOT THE CASE with FSX Default Boeing. Indeed in a test run when the general pitot heat "Shift+H" was turned on the airspeed went back to normal.---So what am I saying? Flame!!! Could we get a Default Boeing 747 which is safe to fly!!! Either a working automatic pitot heat or a switch!? Crashing the plane because of overstress is particulary annoying in a long haul, when you maybe have sat several hours :( This was my first crash in a very long. Needless to say, the default FSX Boeing will never be flown again :(- Kinetic ...reporting live from the crash site!

if you have the money and the system to run it, I highly recommend the PMDG 747!! The most detailed airliner ever imo

The system must be ON before it will work!A 'rip' has been placed in the PIC's personnel file... :-lol http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/191350.jpg

If you put your hand out they say...F.Y.I. :1) De-ice (H key) was indeed set to ON before takeoff.2) Pitot did still freeze/airspeed went zero.3) Your advice (complete with arrows) didn't solve my problem at all. (Because apparently there's a bug there - but shift + h did help).>A 'rip' has been placed in the PIC's personnel file... :-lol ... but thanks for laughing me in my face... not the best way to create an open atomsphere for solving problems do you think? :( I just hope this was not an example of how you bug test switches on the eaglesoft planes. Blaming the user doesn't always help. I don't recommended any eaglesoft planes after this :(Back to the problem: I'm still open for (friendly) suggestions :)-Kinetic

Well...If you werent messin around with the cute blond flight attendant and drinking coffee you could have disabled the auto throttle, cut the throttles and hit the speed brake some and nose up a bit to bleed off some speed but I guess priorities overrule :(Guess I'll read the official report at propwash. ;-)

Yeah really....You are not being payed to fly the plane. You are being paid to be there when something goes wrong. He**, I consider it a successful FSX flight if I can finish it and the sim does not crash much less the plane.

>>What was your route btw? FL??The route was ENGM (Norway) rw 19R to KLAX, about a 10 hour haul, using a route from FsBuild. I was planning a climb to a FL400 (as fuel permitted). If I'll try the route again I'll either turn off icing in Active Sky X, or (better) invest in the PMDG 747.-Kinetic

I just did a KBFI-ESSA with a CLS 742 and an addon FMC. Didnt like the Lite one that came with it. It gets mighty cold on those polar routes. Maybe you were too high.

Aaaaaah the plot thickens.ASX you say.....In my case, I have to say that cause I know we will be quickly reminded so, ASX has been know for some wierd occurrences. Before and even after the latest patch, update, revision wharever you call it, I would have some very quick airspeed, altitude and direction changes.I am talking the kind that would throw the passengers to the roof and then down into the cargo hold type.If I used slew sometimes when I stopped and hit y, the plane would quickly overspeed and destroy itself. If on the ground, it would hit anything in its way.On landing, I would hit what felt to be a ice patch combined with a strong tailwind. The plane would accelerate especially when brakes were applied and all I could do it watch the runway pass by.I have always LOVED activesky but "In my case" it introduces ALOT of strangness. After unchecking the wind stabilization, I no longer have the ground acceleration.I would turn off all icing as its really not realistic at all and just introduces more chances of a problem which sounds like what got you.I am so accustomed to the FSX failure and buggy randomness that its became part of my flight experience.I know it drives the airliner, by the book pilot crazy.

Blaming the user>doesn't always help. I don't recommended any eaglesoft planes>after this :(I'm sorry you interpreted my reply as an "attack" as it was certainly not intended that way! :-eekI tried to reply using the same form of humour which you used in your original post, which was a "fictional accident report..." :( Diving a bit deeper, in the Boeing747-400.CAB file, the following XML script is used for the "Anti-ice Switch" : (A:General eng1 anti ice position, bool) Note that this .CAB file is carried forward from FS2004. Apparently in FSX the key_event "ANTI_ICE_TOGGLE" no longer triggers PITOT_HEAT also. The XML script should have been modified then to something like the following in order for it to function in FSX as it did in FS9: (>K:ANTI_ICE_TOGGLE) (>K:PITOT_HEAT_TOGGLE) This will ensure that both the general airframe de-icing system AND the pitot tube heater will be turned ON when the switch is active.Using any unZIP program, extract the contents of the aforementioned CAB file to the same folder. You may then delete the original .CAB file. Load the Anti-ice Switch.xml file in notepad.exe and modify ONLY the section as shown above. Save the edited file as "Anti-ice Switch.xml" and the problem will be resolved. You do not have to "re-CAB" the file unless you just happen to have the cabdir.exe utility program handy...-----------------------------In view of the above findings by the "Board of Appeals," the aforementioned "rip" is hereby removed from the PIC's personnel file, and profuse apologies are inserted.-----------------------------

And for the record I do have Eaglesoft Cessna Citation X for fs2004 and I'm very satisfied :)-Kinetic

What an intriguing thread.. . perhaps an indication of the heretofore hidden roleplaying potential of MSFS. Perhaps we should all always stay 'in role' when we post. could make for interesting reading.:9
