The visibility of AI traffic has drastically improved, finally. This was tonight on Vatsim

i left the insider program because of vr issues, but i wonder if its improved the visibility there too?

Only during night. In Daytime it is hardly difficult to see some passing aircrafts during flight e.g.

How much, at what distance do they appear?

I was seeing traffic 40+ miles away last night before they even appeared on TCAS. It's much better than it was before. I was choosing to fly on MSFS 2020 for big events because you could see the traffic more, but I saw the change in MSFS 2024 last night.

Odd in MSFS 2024, most of the AI aircraft are missing landing gear until they are about 100 feet away (this is at Ultra settings with everything maxed out using about 22GB VRAM out of 32GB VRAM available).  My assumption this is a bug that has been present since MSFS 2024 release.

I think you're doing something wrong. I'm using AIG and all AI has landing gear and lights no matter what distant I'm looking at. I do know that AIG has not updated their stuff to SU3 yet, that's why I returned to SU2.

What are you talking from. The ai landing gear issue is present in SU too.

That's because when you use AIG or FSLTL the models have different LODs than default FS2024 AI planes, and all of them have wheels and lights. For the same reasons, at least with FSLTL, their contrails are visible.

The problem is with default FS2024 models, which drop details very quickly with distance and when they are out of the field of view.

No AIG and FSLTL does not have landing gears when they are approaching !

If they spawn at gate everything is fine. But when you give a minute or two on an airport you will see after few moments the landing aircrafts does not have any gear visible.

Known bug which is present since release

Really, what exactly am I doing wrong?  Rhetorical, don’t answer.

Again, this is a known bug since the release of MSFS 2024 … it’s very similar to the P3D bug a decade or so ago where objects less than a specific size would not be rendered and is done to improve performance.  The fix in P3D was to adjust the small object value in .cfg (don’t recall the exact parameter name) file to force them to render.  In P3D it had a minor impact to performance.

I hope we’re not stuck with this limitation in MSFS 2024.

Maybe for you, but I don't have that issue. At first launch of 2024, that was a known issue and AIG has since fixed their models, along with instructions on how to fix and inject their AI into 2024. Since the fix all my AI display properly as should. Maybe I'm a lucky one.

The only issue with AIG is SU3 beta, which causes CTD. I reverted back to SU2 and all is well. I certainly haven't heard anything from AIG concerning no landing gear since the fix they issued.
