I haven't used FSX in ages..Advice please.

Recommended Posts

That is an interest compulation of tweaks they listed over there. For my, I am glad that I used the FS-GS service rather than messing around with cfg tweaks. After four hours of proper set up with the internals we didn't even open the cfg, and now I have a computer that slices thru FSX like a hot knife thru butter and performs even better outside of FSX as well. Plus I am able to run AI at 100% percent instead of 0%, full cloud draw distance and density, full scenery complexity, large textures (1024), and not step down autogen density or variety as the tweaks suggested. Sometimes there are no subtitues for good equipment and a properly configured rig from the start. For me, like with Harleyman, after spending a lot of money on a new system spending the extra $80 or so is a no brainer to get the best possible setup. I was lucky to get out with my new system for only $1900, however I purchased a lot of parts online from newegg and got some really great deals. $3800 ouch. If your going to be building a new system like I did FS-GS will also help in providing a "shopping list" for what components are going to work well together without having to spend a fortune. This site of cfg compulations will be a great place to start for those not interested in a whole system configuration.BTW, I am no way affiliated with FS-GS, just a very happy customer.Regards

I appreciate both sides of this discussion. I just never thought that there were so many things needed to do to get FSX running smoothly. You would think if this was all common knowledge now that the developers of this sim would release a patch that would address these issues. Also, I can't seem to locate the cfg file. I have looked in all the places I can think of. I've enabled "show hidden files"..looked in usersmy nameappdataFSX..etc, but I can' find the file.I'm using Vista-32 bit if that helps. Thanks again.Paul.

Paul. I don't have Vista but I imagine it would work the same as XP. Just do a search for files or folders name FSX.CFG and you should be able to find it. Bob G.

Paul, every machine is different so it would be impossible for a 'one fix for all' approach. Thats why FS-GS does such a great job, each system is tuned specifically for max performance, and is guarrenteed or you dont't pay a cent.XP Pro SP2-FSX SP2AMD FX60-8800GTS-2 Gigs RAMFEX-GEX-UTUSA-FSGenesis-and a bunch of other stuffComputer optimized by www.fs-gs.com

They are both great services... I was going to get the Whole Computer service ,and even spoke with ,#### ,forgot his name now,but I was impressed and all the testimonals looked great..But me rig croked, and I had this one built and overclocked, and its free and clear of all bloatware and the OS came somewhat optizmised so it was basic set up for me...And having my tweaked config for 10 bucks was the topping I wanted.........

I have a pretty simple machine: Core2 duo 8400 running at 3.0Ghz 2 gb ram, 8600GT 512 MB ram, Intel motherboard with 1.3GHz FSB bus(most important) XP SP3 and FSX runs like a dream. All sliders to the right except water at 1x high, no bloom. No tweaks SP2.Gaming and flight simulation how they worry me, Because I am a FSX hating wifeof a tweaking loving guy!!!

If you're flying airliners, I can't, from what I've read, see how Vista, with all of it's problems, is going to be worth the frustration? If you're flying GA though, that might work. But I have XP, and I only fly GA in FSX, but I get good frame rates, 25-30FPS, and with scenery like Orbyx, it works just fine.http://www.my-buddy-icon.com/Icons/objects/red_3d_plane.gifAlex ChristoffN562ZBaltimore, MD

What problems does Vista have? I use to run XP and to be honest, I haven't had any problems with Vista.I'm not saying in some instances using FSX there might be weirdness with one OS or the other, but over all I'm not a Vista hater at all.
