FWIW a mention of not to seek answers or criticise payware suppliers to XPlane.org. I recently posted twice - on two same but similar topics - updates or the lack thereof and the lack of communication from the developer about that. Were they definitely offered - depends on how your read the cryptic responses and I might add always on the discordant discord not the Org. So apparently asking as I did that it had been over a year now are they to be considered legacy (XP11) and left. I also complained on a separate thread about the lack of response - namely - customer service or the lack thereof. Apparently this is now classed as trolling and got me a one month ban from doing anything. Fine by me. time that organisation got an alternative venue in competition. Glad I have purchased my main stuff mostly via the developers directly. A few force you into the org. Anyhow just a mention - no to go on about it at all. Find this sort of thing and it has happened to me before with another developer who put out a broken model and banned me for raising it. Maybe the proprietor of that place needs to look at their loyalites - customers or suppliers!

Not sure why anybody needs to openly complain about a lack of developer response. If you don't see them post or participate in active discussions about their product(s), you already have an impression of their priorities anyway. Just quietly put them on the "never again" list and thus vote with your wallet.

Voting with my wallet is my biggest vice - well in flight sim anyway 😁

Already done! Sad but true. Guess I come from a different way of doing business - you did not diddle your customers nor be dishonest about intent or functionality! It is actually a long standing commercial law contracts standard all over the world. Fit for purpose!

Anyway really enjoying XP12 at the moment - no org means I keep working on a number of paints and improvements to some really nice models - the X-Hangars Cessna C404 Titan - has all the bells and whistles just not the stylish Alabeo textures - but great twin for the sim!

Most add-on producing outfits are run by private individuals, not entire companies, hence the probability of adequate long-term support is always a throw of the dice. People simply move on.

While there are legal efforts under way to make software companies responsible for product quality (at least in the EU), the balance between the required effort to get the judical mills turning for the benefit of forcing an individual back to the computer to fix a product or to refund 100 customers or so would not be a favourable one.

As for Alabeo: Since they were under the Carenado's umbrella (AFAIK), the "feel free to make updates as long as you only distribute modified files" for the Carenado products should apply.

Well thought hard and long about this and the actions of that organisation. Realised that i had uploaded for free - probably 30 or more liveries (countless hours of work by me) not to mention other numerous contributions to designers and users on technical aeronautical issues etc, helped modify and fix several XP11 models for XP12. That is now over and finished got better things to do than make XPlane.Org look good.

If I need something (which I doubt now) then I will go to alternative outlets, if they cannot be had that way then bad luck- my wallet is now closed to the Org.

Yes like dictators over there, im on a very short straw with them.

Well, I don't mince words when it comes to naming the names of companies I felt have dropped the ball on service. And most of my XP purchases have been through .org or X-Aviation. I haven't had any issues with the storefronts themselves whatsoever. I DO take issues with one developer.

Let me first give you a great example of how a business of people moving on from certain projects can be done well. The Felis Tu-154 (exceptional aircraft model that I enjoyed in XP11 and purchased for a full price) was declared end-of-life for XP12 and wasn't updated any longer. There was transparency in communication. Moreover, he made the XP11 model freeware and told the community to do with it as they will. That one still hasn't been updated to work on XP12, unfortunately. What he did goes above and beyond, and I certainly don't expect people to give away their stuff if they don't want to. But at least, I know that unless someone somehow updates it, that aircraft is done for me and I no longer need to search for the news of updates.

On the other hand, FlyJSim (whose 73 and 72 I purchased, as well as Q400) first promised a free update a couple of years ago. Then it became a fee-based update, which is fine - I am willing to pay for that. But nothing came of it and there has been nothing in the way of transparency. No communication, even though the main creator posts on their Discord, there have been a couple of updates for the Q400, but nothing came of the Boeings. At this point, I have accepted that it's probably not going to happen, but why can't they just SAY THAT? It's not great to drag your customers along with a promise that things are still somehow in progress, yet nothing materializes. So, unless something comes of it, I am not supporting them if they ever do another product. It's unfortunate, because I am willing and able to pay for updates. So are many others. But the lack of communication is maddening.

Anyway, rant over. 🙂

I dont know why its maddening. I can understand there view point. Bit like the ka350 forum. Developer has big post first topic, we need your input to improve this plane, right underneath i guy ranting on about an issue and that ther are doing nothing. No matter what they do, so they say nothing. Good on them.
