SDK Update?

Recommended Posts

After quite awhile I had to reload FSX. Got the SP1 and SP2. But wasn't there an update for the SDK? If so, I cannot see it in the downloads section of Microsoft's Flight Simulator Home site? Regards,Dick BoleyA PC, an LCD, speakers, CH yoke

Ok downloading...thanksYou really have to wonder about the intellect of the manager that decided that an update to a flight sim product should be buried in the general downloads area. Oh well, if everything works ok it will be FSX11 time until I need to become concerned again.Regards,Dick BoleyA PC, an LCD, speakers, CH yoke

Perhaps the remark about the "intellect" of the manager should have been "strange motive" instead. Bad day after PC wiped out my Windows folder and thus taking the usual 2 days for restoration. FSX was the last and I was sincerely disappointed in not seeing a link to the SDK update alongside the other FSX download links. Or, a link to its current destination. It just was not logical to me.Regards,Dick BoleyA PC, an LCD, speakers, CH yoke

Took me about a half hour to find them. And I was using Google too !I echo the thoughts of those conserned about the wisdom of burying these things away like this. Especially when certain third party add on's require the files in theses updated SDK's just to run (IE - MyTraffic).http://www.fsinsider.com/downloads/Pages/F...tKitUpdate.aspxhttp://www.fsinsider.com/downloads/Pages/F...-SP2Update.aspxAnd for newcomers, they have to get lucky to just find out that the first SDK is on DVD1. Took me what seemed like forever to find this out while I looked unsuccessfully to find it posted on the web.Bob (Las Cruces, NM)XP-Home, With FS Genesis Terrain MeshLogitech G15 Backlit Game Keyboard and18 Programmable Macro/Keystroke KeysAsus P5N-D MotherboardIntel E8500 @ 3.16GHz (Now)CPUThermaltake MaxOrb Enthusiast CPU FanCorsir XMS2 PC6400/DDR2/800 Dual, 4GigsSATA-II 3.0Gb/s 16MB Cache 7200RPM HDDEVGA Geforce 8800 GT/512 (OC'd Version)Dual Flat Panel Monitors

The comment on the "Microsoft schedule" is one of the core elements that actually creates an undercurrent of angst. They, with resources, are told by accounting that they promised a product with a projected revenue stream on date mm/yyyy. The budgets are created and no one wants to explain to high management that their project did not make their revenue contribution. Therefore, the lower level manager is forced (by the need for food and shelter) to get the product out. I also use a railsim product that was "rushed to market" and is a constant source of annoyance to me. It is good enough to be useful but obviously incomplete. So I apologize to the unknown manager who is told to get things(SDK) structured according to descriptions, and the new ESP structure, from on-high.Regards,Dick BoleyA PC, an LCD, speakers, CH yoke

this statement is full of half-truths and misconceptions.no one outside of the studio knows a thing about our revenue. my blog post about the relative sales performance of FS9 vs FSX should give anyone pause who is making revenue shortfall predictions. so should the studio growth. losing organizations do not grow.getting to the SDK from the main site in 2 clicks fsinsider->developer corner->esp msdn dev centerseems straightforward to me and the claims this is a hardship, or an indication of rushed behavior, or anything else appears to be a stretch. we spent a lot of time telling the FSX developer community about the FSX developer corner resource so that path would be well-known. perhaps it is just that you are not a developer by nature and are instead experimenting and thus did not view the previous messaging as noteworthy and do not recall it. any organization has schedules and projections and must act on them, that is called business as compared to charity. that is nothing noteworthy. all of us here at Aces believe in the product and work hard to make it as excellent as we can, none of us is here just to get "food and shelter".

It would be nice if an "How to Install SP's and SDK's step by step" was posted on the web site. This would eliminate alot of guessing.Bill M

>>getting to the SDK from the main site in 2 clicks >> fsinsider->developer corner->esp msdn dev center>>seems straightforward to me and the claims this is a hardship,>or an indication of rushed behavior, or anything else appears>to be a stretch.Alternative approach:1. Go to www.microsoft.com2. Enter "fsx sdk" in the live search and press Enter. The first entry in the result list is "Download details: FSX SDK SP1A". Voila ;-)Time spent searching: 5 secs.Alternative approach 2:If you Google FSX SDK the 5:th item in the result list is "Download details: FSX SDK SP1A". It's the top item in the list with an url to www.microsoft.com. If you Google MS FSX SDK the correct url is the first item in the list.Anybody familiar with how to search the net with Google or how to search a site, can't spend more than 5 minutes to find the FSX SDK download. It's impossible unless using a 16Kbps dial up connection ;-)Ulf B

What guessing? On the FS Insider download site for SP2 you get this information:"IMPORTANT: If you have already installed Flight Simulator X: Acceleration expansion pack, do not install Service Pack 2.IMPORTANT: You must install Service Pack 1 before installing Service Pack 2."No guessing needed. The info is clear. Have a look yourself: http://www.fsinsider.com/downloads/Pages/f...rvicePack2.aspxIf you go to the download site for the SDK update you may read the following info:"InstructionsThe original version of the SDK from Microsoft Flight Simulator X (Deluxe) must be installed prior to installing this SDK SP1 update. Microsoft Flight Simulator X should also be installed prior to utilizing the SDK, as well as the Microsoft .NET 2.0 framework, to ensure all dependent components are installed prior to utilizing the tools contained in this SDK."What more info do you need? What guessing?Ulf BCore2Duo X6800 3.3GHz4GB RAM Corsair XMS2-8500C5BFG 8800GTX, Creative SB X-FiFSX Acc/SP2, Vista 32
