Wings on - upside down??

Recommended Posts

Why does FS continuously try? Why not try 3 times, give up, and free the resource it would have used? The fact that it is endlessly trying is causing the problem.Best regards,Robin.

That's where "understanding computers" comes into play. Along with understanding computer programming. What you want above COULD be done, but it isn't a smart way to write a program. There are too many variables involved in how the software interacts with the hardware. Something like "only trying 3 times to load a texture then quit trying" might SEEM like a long time, but it can happen in milliseconds on todays hardware. So why not make the parameter "try 1,000 times", or "try 1,000,000 times"? And you would have to include separate parameters for ALL the different aspects of the program, not just "textures". How long should you wait for a .BGL (scenery) file to stop "trying" to load before you give up because it is conflicting with another .bgl file?It isn't as easy as you would like it to be. FSX is a very complicated piece of software code, with millions of lines of code in it. When we, as users of the program, start adding all kinds of addons to it, conflicts with scenery, or "bad code", missing files, corrupted files, etc, etc, can cause problems. Knowing how to "trouble-shoot" those problems is essential if you want to "fix" the overall "problem" FSX is experiencing. There's a reason people have jobs as "specialists" in the IT industry, doing System Administration on networks. It's because the vast majority of end-users don't have a CLUE about how their computer actually works. If it wasn't for the IT department, those computers and networks would be useless within days. The end-users just don't want to take the time to learn how to maintain them themselves. In the Flight Simulator community, YOU have to be your OWN "System Administrator" for your computer if you want to keep FSX running well on it. That requires getting at least a basic level of knowledge about how the computer works, and what you need to do to maintain it's functioning over time ("System Maintenance"). And you have to learn how to "trouble-shoot" problems. It's your computer...no one is "waiting in the background" to save you when something isn't working right on it.FalconAF

Hi FalconI am not in anyway disputing your point - some of my non-gaming friends have computers which are unbelieveable (to me). One with a very late model laptop running Vista - has 86 running processes!!x( As the OP, I think that you could not be expected know that my machine is clean. And for others, they would not know that, even though my machine is not the VERY latest - its specs are WELL ahead of what is stated to be minimum for the Sim to run. (And I don't/won't accept that this is "normal" for games - companies like MS and others should be held responsible and accountable for their very bad adherence to "truth in advertising" principles). WE have Legislation in my country dealing with this kind of thing - I wonder if it has ever been tested in the realm of computer software. I have to admit that I do get anoyed with people who state (either explicitly or implicitly) that the very latest Quad core CPUs and the very latest high cost GPUs with a minimum of 512 vid RAM is necessary to run something as simple as a Mission that uses ( as far as I can see) default aircraft with addon paint skins.Something is not right with that - who knows what? We are actually dealing with 3 Sims wehen we talk about FSx - RTM, SP1, and SP2. Who knows what Sim this mission was developed for - who knows what SDK was used in it's development, or whether any was used at all.I removed SP2 from my machine in the very early days of my FSx installation- because I was getting graphical "spikes" reaching into the sky (have seen a few instances of this also reported by others)- this was on a totally clean installation, RTM +SP1+SP2. Once again it was spasmodic - and if I recall correctly, also only happened either in default Missions or under some weather conditions. NOTHING - I tried after lots of Internet research got rid of them - except after uninstalling SP2 . Hey presto - instant relief( note I din't say cure) AS I said, I am quite happy with my FSx SP1 - happy enough to not want to purchase a 512 Meg vid card for say around $200 AUD just so I don't get the odd graphical glitch in some circumstances. this is incorrect.first, it is not clear model loads happen continually like scenery loading.second, stopping the resource load process would guarantee it is not present and make permanent the anomaly.
