Beyond ATC can't cope with large amounts of traffic

Featured Replies

I've set all AI aircraft density settings in Beyond ATC to 8, but leaving EGLL this evening, I was half way through France before they instructed me to move off London control. There was so much traffic that it clearly couldn't cope.

Surely it should prioritise the actual aircraft being flown over their own generated AI?

I think the ATC should treat you as an AI plane, that's the logic.

I think their control zones (same frequency) are too big. Thus a lot of traffic is for one controller.

You can report that controllers are being overworked here: https://www.natca.org/

For busy airports like EGLL I set all all AI traffic settings to 4 and parked density to 7. You get a 'full' airport, a level of traffic BATC can cope with, and better performance. You also don't get annoyed by lengthy waits in 'your world'.

I’m curious what SI would offer on this matter, when they release their own controlled AI traffic on Sunday.

I reverted to default built on FS 2024 ATC and AI Traffic, but last time inused BATC I set the sliders at 3 and I was good with that.

Perhaps Beyond ATC could add a slider that allows the speech to be readback quicker (or slower) ....There are other apps out there that allow this and it would mean you can get more transmissions in. I'll head over to their Discord and suggest it

They recommend not using settings higher than five as it will overwhelm the ATC.  I normally use 5-6 at major airport, but crank it up to 10 for smaller airports to ensure I see all traffic.

Some things that could help mitigate this / missing things that contribute to the inability to handle high traffic levels

- multiple ground / tower controllers at large airports that have them in real life

- CPDLC so that massive amount of traffic aren’t all trying to get clearances via radio

- variable speed voices - imagine if controllers and pilots at JFK spoke much faster than a typical medium / small airport based on traffic volume?

I don’t know f any of this is under consideration or development.

BATC isn’t perfect, but still my preferred ATC option by a long shot.  Needing to dial back traffic at busy airports is a compromise I’m ok with, and frankly it helps keep performance good at major airports.

Yeah, but when asked what the next feature should be the majority of the Community voted GSX-Integration.

People really have their priorities set straight...🤦‍♂️

They said it is under development either way, it just won't come as fast as it would have if the community had voted for it.

I also use 5/5/5 for traffic and 7 for parked. Works really well with a good balance of decent movements, full gates and is easy on performance whilst not overwhelming the virtual controllers. Any higher traffic levels and I get constant go-arounds on arrival as well when somewhere busy like EGLL as traffic all just pile up on top of each other.

Don't get me started on GSX integration...what an non-feature! Doesn't even work properly for me and if I understand it correctly then all it's supposed to do anyway is trigger the pushback automatically and select a gate upon arrival. 90% of the times BATC assigns me wrong gates anyway and I have to override, so what is the point of this feature? Sometimes I don't get this community...votes to save 2 button clicks in favour of a proper in-depth feature like CPDLC that would actually change the entire philosophy of how one can interact with the software.

I believe when asked, the majority of the people who voted this way, admitted that they did not even know what CPLDLC is.

They probably think HF radio is still the main form of communication used on Oceanic Crossings...

Very interesting.  Does BATC also work without voice interaction (i.e. text based menu selection for request, read back, etc.)?  Looks like a very nice product.

Beyond ATC works for me. I have all sliders set to 7 and it seems to simulate real world ops to my taste.

It does You can have the program automatically answer, automatically tune the radio, answer from the keyboard (text based but prerendered options (like >"Say again", "request decent", "announce on frequency" etc).
