July 8, 2025Jul 8 When choosing the thunder storm weather setting I do not hear the thunder sound either in the cockpit or outside, with engines not running. When I locate the thunder sound wave located in the sound main director and double click it, the wabe file plays loud and clear, but it does not play while running the msfs x ap. I do hear the wind noise and sometimes, the lightening strikes, but no thunder. I have adjusted the sound settings in the app turning all but the encironment slider bars to the far left, but that makes no difference. I have restarted the ap several times and tried different aircraft with no avail. This is my first post and I hope I have done it correctly. Any help that is sent my way is much appreciated. Thanks in advance for any suggestions that you think might fix the issue. Gary from Boise, ID

July 8, 2025Jul 8 Author Thanks Charlie, but I have tried it more than once and no difference. In the original install of msfs x about how manu thunder wave files would there have been in the x sound folder? I only find one currently - is this sound wave file that is located in the main sound directory allocated for all airplanes? Is there another directory that should have other weather sound files as well? I'm just trying to understand what causes the weather sounds to be audible. Thanks again for your quick response.
July 8, 2025Jul 8 Administrators Sound/thunder there are about 60 different .wav files for the sounds of thunder. Are you seeing flashes of lightning? No lightning=no thunder. July 9, 2025Jul 9 Author Yes, lots of lightening, wind sounds, rain on the aircraft inside windshield but no thunder sounds. I only have one thunder wave sound in the sim main sound folder. it is 2Cthun5b. when I do a search in the sound folder there is only this one in it. Looks like I'm missing a ton of them. How could I recover these? I do remember quite awhile ago hearing thunder when I would chose the thunderstorm weather. I did try the thunder sound download several times without any difference. I appreciate your help with this. Gary

July 9, 2025Jul 9 Author Charlie, What email did you use, I don't have mine posted here on my profile and I didn't receive any emails from you as of yet. I'd appreciate you sending the thunder sound files. Thanks so much and I'll download them into the sound folder and hope that works. Edited July 9, 2025Jul 9 by charliearon remove email addy
July 9, 2025Jul 9 If on steam you can always check for file integrity, or just reinstall, usually replaces missing files

July 9, 2025Jul 9 Author Thanks for your suggestions concerning the Steam version of msfs x. I do not have the steam version. I do have another question if you don't mind: I downloaded all of the thunder wave files into the main sound directory/folder in msfs x not the folder. Should I have put the folder that all of the wave files were in that you sent me in the sound directory instead of the individual wave files? There are several other folders in the sound directory as well. Do the sound files still play if they are in a folder in the sound directory or do the wave files need to be downloaded individually into the sound folder. Here is a partial list of some of the other folders that are in the main sound directory: ATC, Lessons, UI Music, Lower Volume, Ground Handeling, etc. Your response is always appreciated and welcomed.
July 9, 2025Jul 9 Administrators The entire folder labeled thunder with it's contents of .wav files should have been placed into the Sound folder which is in the Main FSX folder. The path is FSX/Sound/thunder. Charlie AronAVSIM Board of Directors-ADMIN/Moderator-RegistrarJust going to run a Chromebook and not upgrade to a Windows computer. July 9, 2025Jul 9 Author Thanks for the clarification. That fixed the 'no thunder sound' issue. I really appreciate your help. Now, if I could hear the rain that would increase the realness even more. I see several rain sound waves in the sound folder but do not hear any of them. Should I place them in a folder named rain and place that new folder with the rain wave files in the main sound folder? I'm a bit confused about the main sound folder, there are mostly wave files without folders in the main sound folder and then other folders with sound waves in the main sound folder as well. Thanks again for your great help with this.
July 9, 2025Jul 9 Administrators Do nothing with the .wav files that are not in folders. All rain sounds are in the precip folder. July 9, 2025Jul 9 Author I didn't have a precep folder but I have several precip wave files. So I created a precip folder, placed all the precip wave files in it and then placed the precip folder in the main sound folder, and wala,,,,,now I have rain sounds. Sheesh, things make sense when someone nice explains things. I don't know how these folders got deleted but the rain (precip) wave files are still in my sound folder. I'm wondering how many folders in the main sound folder are missing because there are tons of wave files that are not in folders. Thanks again for your great help. Have a nice day Charlie.
