I didn't know that 'depreciate' was a synonym of 'remove.' Or maybe I'm wrong? Or prehaps that's the point - nobody can clearly understand the sentence?

The unusual use of the word seems to arise from existance in a cloistered community ( programmers). I was one and since nobody understood what we were doing in an operating system we ended up in a rather closed group. The unwashed public defines the word as: TRANSITIVE VERB:de

Yes, this context is generally where the word is used- I see it all the time in SDKs and programming help materials. Microsoft uses it in MSDN alot.

Interesting comments on the use of the word 'depreciate.' Thanks guys! although I've just noticed that the word used was 'deprecate' and not 'depreciate.' Doh!! I'll get my coat :-)

Well, I'm bad for saying this, but at least they didn't take out the 'pr' and substitute an 'f' in there.RhettAMD 3700+ (@2585 mhz), eVGA 7800GT 256 (Guru3D 93.71), ASUS A8N-E, PC Power 510 SLI, 2gb Corsair XMS 3-3-3-8 (1T), WD 150 gig 10000rpm Raptor, WD 250gig 7200rpm SATA2, Seagate 120gb 5400 rpm external HD, CoolerMaster Praetorian

Yes, it is a standard term to mean that although those elements of the API will continue to work for reasons of backwards compatibility, they are replaced by an improved interface, cannot included in best practice, and will not be supported in future versions. Here is the Java meaning of "deprecated":http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.5.0/docs/guide/...eprecation.html
