  • I like REX.  I just don't know though on those 2 shots... the one on the bottom looks really edited on my monitor.  Maybe its because I dont use HDR and only run at 1440p. I think the atmosphere

  • What would be nice is if it changed dynamically. I don't know if it's possible, but back in the days of REX on P3D I changed the sky color at dawn during the day as well as the sunset so as not to hav

  • That's an odd Before/After comparison they show on their site...the 'Before' pic (default MSFS) actually looks more realistic and pleasing to my eyes....

jokes aside, what makes you hesitant on the MSFS 2024 version?

Did you watch the vid that started the discussion? It looks like the MSFS2024 is almost a complete different product with way more options and it seems to be utterly difficult to find a jack of all trades setting. And people, including me, do not like if the REX Atmos setup has to be adjusted for each time of the day, each weather condition and each season. So, this "pre-view" simply tells me that I am not going to spend any money on it. Until somebody proofs Easyjetsimpilot wrong and there IS a preset/config that works all the time.

Yea but the question doesn't really apply to someone with your particular tastes of not wanting more configurable visual options in the sim.

The essential nature of a product like REX Atmos isn't for you obviously. This particular product isn't your cup of tea. We get that.

Hence why I directed the question at Bobcat, someone who purchased the prior 2020 version of the software, because its a product that is currently enjoyed and has features they find desirable.

What do you dislike about the 2020 REX Atmos?

I can't sim without it and Reshade alone just isn't enough for these sort of visuals!

Firstly, great pics there!

Secondly, to answer the question in bold, nothing!  I use Atmos 2020 and I really like it (even more now I know how to use the favourites!  ).

Maybe it was a misunderstanding there because I liked (part) of a comment of the guy who says it annoys him (even though he bought it and still uses it).

As for the 2024 version, I just wasn't impressed by that first review.  So I will hang on to see how it pans out and take a few more opinions.
It seems to function differently from the 2020 version (as we should expect) so when MSFS 2024 changes from a day to night environment, Atmos seems to lose a bit of balance.  I think this happened in 2020 as well, but maybe not so much.

As much as I liked Atmos in 2020, I just don't get to use it so much now, as I spend 90% of my time in 2024 - that is why I am hoping for this new version to work well in 2024.

Yup it sure does and by that time i just leave it be, especially during nightfall where I'm not seeing much out there anyway.

So if you don't want it to look the same on every flight, you have to change the preset.  Not for me.

That is correct, currently.  The developers have stated they want to add dynamic changes depending on weather conditions in the future.

Please explain to me why then avsim forum autoreplacement did replace a word with "word not allowed" in his post?

If he means the whole sim with "word not allowed", then yes, I misinterpreted it.

Strange for the forum to censor a word similar to “darn” and yes I meant the sim.

My point was that Atmos had value in 2020 despite it being somewhat clunky to use. It just doesn’t seem worth it in 2024.

And to answer concerns -

That's a totally false statement....

You simply set the presets as favorite and they will auto load on startup every time.

Some of you are so insufferable and biased against certain developers you'll nitpick and say anything to carry on a narrative.

Pretty pathetic honestly!

I was an early adopter of Atmos when it came out and back then there was no favourite function or autoloading. Just like another annoying thing - not showing values at all on the sliders. That all came later I think, and by that point I wasn’t using the sim. They did improve UX in later patches I believe but initially it just wasn’t great.

Thanks for the feedback. I admit that I could also be “wrong.” When I use the translator to read the posts, as I always do, I naturally see a moderate translation. It could be that the translator does not translate things into my language in a way that American readers would understand. There are expressions that mean “good” in some areas and “bad” in others. I tested this: I translated the text into German and then back into American. Now I can understand your annoyance a little better. In general, however, I believe that we should allow other opinions and not immediately demonize them. Sorry, that was off-topic, so I'll refrain from commenting on such matters in the future.

EDIT:
To return to the topic: I only used ATMOS in MSFS2020 at the beginning because I wanted more realistic colors and haze in live weather. However, I was bothered by the lack of dynamics. I didn't want to have to open the program for every weather situation, move the slider, or load a previously saved situation. And exactly the same thing happens here with the MSFS2024 version of ATMOS. For me, there is no perfect atmosphere that can be set and then applied to every weather condition and every time of day. ATMOS should allow you to save situations for rain, haze, snow, morning, evening, etc. The program should then react dynamically to the time in the simulator and the weather, and then slowly change the desired parameters dynamically to the saved situations. Only then will I buy ATMOS again. As it stands now, REX has not convinced me as a customer because it offers nothing new compared to the 2020 version. REX ATMOS's approach to invention is great. But the implementation is not good enough (for me).

Sorry, mabe bad english from Translator...

Editing.

The real power of Atmos Core is now emerging with published presets and screenshots (Rex Discord). The sliders are used effectively rather than yanking the sliders from one extreme to the other and dismissing functionality.

Absolutely.

That video was a disgrace, and I said so at the time. It was blatantly obvious he was just moving the sliders willy nilly and not paying any attention to how they interact with each other, or testing in different weather conductions, different times, different altitudes etc.

It was so obvious he hadn’t a clue.

I was never a big fan of easyjetsimpilot in the first place, and that video just cemented that opinion.
