Jorg said MSFS is "fully funded for years to come"

Featured Replies

I watched this part of the stream. Jorge wasn't prompted to talk about MS layoffs, he opened the subject himself. MSFS is well regarded within the organisation as a whole and is fully funded into the foreseeable future.

He didn't need to say any of this and no executive of a listed company is going to make this stuff up.

Despite the doomsayers here and elsewhere he also went on to say that 2024 continues to grow in user numbers and across both products MSFS has more users than ever before.

This thing isn't going away. It will simply continue to grow in popularity.

Yes. The Optica and the Firefighting plane are coming (The big one), along with others. Not every plane, but certainly he said that they will try and do 3 a month for a few months.

I hope they roll the a21n and the a330 back. That would be interesting.

Looks like they are selling them for $9.99

In terms of MP, it took a huge hit by not being on 24 for a while. I don't think MS really cares if you buy either MP, as long as you buy from one of them.

Backporting to stuff to 2020 makes sense for this.

These are excellent News !!!

Money won't increase the skill level of the current dev team.

Why don't you apply for a job with them and show your skills as a developer.

Ah, as sure as the sun comes up, you can count on the usual suspects spouting their nonsense again to satisfy their continuous need to dump on MS/Asobo 🙂 While they remain clueless and agitated, reality keeps moving on: MSFS as a platform (both 2020+2024 combined) keeps growing in numbers, has captured a huge chunk of the flight simmer market in general, has 77% of the "serious" simmer market (per Navigraph survey), and has most of the major 3rd party devs developing exclusively for the sim (heck even some devs who're stalwarts of other sim platforms are now testing the waters with MSFS 🙂)

And despite the naysayers (and wishes of some), 2024 continues to improve and rids more and more of the issues that plagued it at release, as it progresses from SU1 -> SU2 -> SU3 and beyond. If I want great flight dynamics *and* avionics/systems *and* visual fidelity + world depiction *and* weather etc etc etc, I have no pressing need to go anywhere else if I have MSFS 2024. Even in its default form and fleet, but especially more so combined with the great many high fidelity aircraft out there to choose from.

Yes of course MS as a big enterprise business could pull the plug on MSFS in the future for whatever reasons, and however likely or unlikely that is, that reason sure won't be due to the failure of MSFS as a sim platform. And given MS's continued pouring of investment into the core sim and team, along with expansion of partnerships with various 3rd party devs, I'd say it's more unlikely than it is likely.

Just really surprises me that if you don’t like a company or product that you wouldn’t find something better to do with your time than trolling. It’s been eight months. Everyone has had plenty of time to get over whatever emotional distress a piece of software has caused them. And no one took 2020 away so…

Threads like this are super useful in helping me keep my ignore list populated.  🙂

I think people are actually bothered that MSFS is not failing.  Seems like their numbers here are shrinking here too.  We're back to having good conversations as well as compaints.

I'm too busy to read negative posts, I'm too busy flying in 2024.  With FS Traffic and the A2A Comanche 2024 compatible, along with a good 2024 native helicopter (Taog's M500), I'm having a blast flying.  I still want to check out the Starship and the Citation X.  A bunch of other stuff that ports over to 2024 just fine.

2024 is far more stable than 2020, for me.  If you want to stick with 2020?  Great!  Do what is best for you, and I'll do the same.

Yes, both SU3 and SU16 are slated for release July 29 as of now.

Just in case anyone didn't watch the stream, Jorg stressed that July 29 was the target release date and not a locked-in commitment. He stated later in the stream that he felt like July 29 is looking less likely for SU3 (but still possible).

Asobo has done what they said they would, su16 was released for 2020 and it's not being left behind.  They're porting some of the 24 aircraft back to 2020 (I assume for a fee of course as it's a lot of work).

Are there bugs in 24?  Absolutely.  Is backwards compatibility not quite as certain as we first were told - yes.

Still there's a lot to love in 2024.  It's hilarious the same people keep saying negative things anytime something positive is posted.

Stay with 2020 then - no one is making you switch to 24.  Development is moving ahead though with 2024, and that's where I'll be.  I've always enjoyed getting the new sim, bugs and all.

Well said mate.  Some of the rubbish posted on here is laughable.

"I don't trust Jorg anymore" LOL......get over yourselves.

If MSFS20/24 aren't a huge success, and they couldn't plan the funding for many years to come, then I would say that either - MS put 80% of the profit into the pockets, or - they are spending way too much funds on a really slow development (complicated technology behind the sim, or devs in Asobo are not up to task).
I mean, if X-Plane as a platform can be around for 30 years (I won't compare the number of people that are working in both companies), then it would be a miracle if MSFS can't hang around for another 10-20 years. I would simply call it incompetence, without any thinking, call me crazy.

Don't get me wrong, I'm fully aware of the technology that is behind MSFS, and everything revolutionary they achieved. But everything comes with the cost. If you want to keep pushing the boundaries, you need more people, more collaborations, and that equals more investments, which can lead to laying off or in price increase. Both scenarios are bad, we know the reasons.

A much better investment for Microsoft would be to purchase Laminar Research and let them build a real flight sim. We would have the best of both worlds - great physics and flight dynamics + great visuals with Microsoft's budget.

I'll bite.  I'm a real world pilot (little planes) and air traffic controller... so I've got a decent background in aviation (almost 20 years doing both).  Both sims are very capable of simulating real world flight with the right addons.  I've found some of the best flights I've had in MSFS 2020, FSX, P3D and even 2024.  I've also had some awesome realistic feeling flights in XP10, 11 and 12.

XP12 does a better job with flight modeling by DEFAULT but not by much imo.  With the right peripherals (that can make a massive difference in control responsiveness) either sim can turn an armchair aviator session into an excellent preparation for real world flight.

I wonder how much of a hit on the marketplace they've taken. The new version is so bad it makes it hard to buy or find anything. The whole MSFS 24 UI is the worst I've experienced in gaming across every mode and tab.

2024 is new and still pretty complicated to develop for...  as we've seen there are hardly any true native (and in depth) 2024 payware aircraft available.  Think back to MSFS 2020's beginning... we hardly had any in depth addons until a year later at least.  Asobo has laid the foundation with 2020 and will continue to work on 2024.  About your UI comment...  I don't experience the same, how would you make it better?  Have you posted your concerns on their forums at all?  They DO listen because they've addressed 4 of the bugs I've posted about so far.

I want to not be snarky, but all I can think of is… It’s good they’re funded for years to come because it’s going to take that long to fix everything 😛
