Whaaaa...Microsoft can develop earth mapping for many other more relevant purposes than a game and probably has other methods to do so.

Flight Simulation is a very, very small part of Microsoft. It was shelved in the past and could be shelved again!

Maybe someone here can provide more details or correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe back in the FSX days, the weather engine from FSX was sold commercially and was used to generate the weather simulations you'd see on TV weather reports, just like Google licenses their 3D maps for similar purposes. It's not that far-fetched that Microsoft would use what Asobo has already created for similar purposes.

There was nothing "dishonest" about the release.

To be sure, MSFS 2024 had teething issues and still needs a lot of work.

MSFS 2024 receives constant bug fixes, and Asobo still supports the previous version.

Best of both worlds, so to speak.

X-planers seem more concerned about the future of MSFS than MSFS players. Lol.

A much better investment for Microsoft would be to purchase Laminar Research and let them build a real flight sim. We would have the best of both worlds - great physics and flight dynamics + great visuals with Microsoft's budget.

And Microsoft calling the shots? No thanks.

I prefer to have them both, and Condorsoaring 3, and even Aerofly FS 4 and next...

Diversity makes Evolution!

I would like to, one day, maybe at a flight simulation gathering, have the chance to get Austin playing MSFS and Seb playing X-Plane, both coached by professional pilots in nice cockpits, showing each other the pros and cons of each sim...

MSFS, XP, AEFS and CONDOR in the civil side are GREAT sims, each for it's own...

A rather pathetic and immature jab, really.

Both sims live rent free in this simmers head, and I hope both continue to co-exist for a long time.

Falcon BMS is trying to elbow its way in too...

I'll bite.  I'm a real world pilot (little planes) and air traffic controller... so I've got a decent background in aviation (almost 20 years doing both).  Both sims are very capable of simulating real world flight with the right addons.  I've found some of the best flights I've had in MSFS 2020, FSX, P3D and even 2024.  I've also had some awesome realistic feeling flights in XP10, 11 and 12.

Quite. I do most of my flying in MSFS 2020, but enjoy my X-Plane flights too, particularly the AFL 172s (analog and G1000) and the AFL King Air. I'll eventually migrate my MSFS 2020 stuff to MSFS 2024 but there's no hurry, since I'll need to upgrade my ISP first (not a lot of choice where I live), and I'm happy to let other people do the suffering while the pain points are dealt with.

To be sure, the teething process is quicker.

Speaking of hub of the World.... whatever happened to MSFS World Hub ?

In the latest Dev stream Jorg said they were holding back on it until both the sims had the same aerials so that modders wouldn't have to make separate airports for each sim. This seems to be pretty much accomplished so the World Hub should be coming 'soon' (TM).

Give people power to really test their personality.

You could also take the perspective that MSFS being "fully funded for years" means they've taken their foot off the gas. Complacency breeds contempt, as they say. "Fully funded" doesn't mean they have a pot of money to burn through - they need to be making a profit on that investment. If the higher ups decide it's going Pete Tong you can be sure as hell they'll pull the plug before the losses are too great.

More concerning is that Jorg doesn't seem to have a clue about some of the issues raised in the live streams and he most definitely doesn't have the same energy about him as he did before 2024 launched.

"what lightning in clear skies bug?"

Nothings changed in that respect(!), to be fair he shouldn't need to know every single issue just the main ones that largely affect the game. He has a team below him to better cater for knowing the large majority of known issues, but he should be briefed on the big ones before every Q&A.

What I found disappointing is that it's taken him this long to realise the UI is word not allowed, begs the question again; does he actually play his own game?!
