Default XP12 RKSI and VRMM are indeed miles ahead of anything MS/Asobo could come up with the past 5 years.

Then stay with XP and go post in that forum.

You do not post about the Fenix in the PMDG forum too.

With all due respect to compare the out of the box experiences with these two sims and in any way try to equate them is in my opinion QUITE a stretch and quite contrary to what you posted in the XP forums.

Fair point - the out-of-the-box experiences are definitely different. I wasn’t trying to equate them directly, just highlighting that both have strengths depending on what you're looking for.

Lots of areas within MSFS require no customization what-so-ever and still provide breathtaking detail the likes we have never seen in any flight sim out of the box.

MSFS does deliver some stunning visuals right out of the box, no doubt about it. That level of default detail is one of its biggest strengths.

XP out of the box without at a bare minimum the Map Enhancement Tool and scenery add-ons is abysmal in comparison to MSFS.  While there are areas of MSFS that indeed look poor, it's the opposite in XP and there may be some areas like default airports that look quite good in XP.   Not to denegrate XP, it does a TON well out of the box but to compare the two out of the box experiences and claim MSFS needs add ons just like XP is disingenuous.

MSFS clearly sets a high bar visually out of the box, especially in terms of global scenery. XP does a lot right too, particularly in flight dynamics and system depth, but I agree the visual gap without add-ons is significant. I wasn’t trying to be disingenuous, just pointing out that both platforms benefit from add-ons, even if the starting points are different.

They are pretty polar opposite experiences out of the box andI happened to agree to what you have posted yourself in the XP forums talking about how the out of box experiences differ and I quote:

I agree, they are very different out-of-the-box experiences, and I still stand by what I said in the XP forums. MSFS delivers a much more visually complete world without needing much extra, while XP shines more in other areas, especially atmosphere and weather.  I think it’s fair to acknowledge both have very different priorities and strengths.

Completely agree which is why I made a point to call out that there is a LOT XP also does incredibly well out of the box.  Certainly not going to deny that at all.  Credit where credit is due.

I'm with you though, if XP provided the same visuals out of the box then we are having an entirely different conversation especially with the debacle of the 24 launch but once you've seen MSFS there is a good deal of work to "get" XP to look as good.  Also acknowledging that it CAN look as good with the right add ons. (Although for some reason my AA forever looks "broken" in XP but that's another story...

My "guess" is the licensing costs of the global scenery would make XP cost prohibitive because Austin can obviously "do" it...  It's a shame because to your point,  if the average person downloads both and fires them up one after another it's just a glaring graphical difference.

No denying both platforms benefit from add-ons either although MSFS is the first time I haven't needed an entire global scenery replacement like I required the UT Series in P3D for all of those years.

More importantly and to swing this thing back on course but I am reading that SU16 has dropped for MSFS and people are not seeing any denigrated ground textures.

Were those people using high res textures before su16? I take it now it's a mandatory update for everyone?

Back to the topic, as a amateur airport developper, I appreciate with this SU16 the alignment of Bing map between 2020 and 2024. For the next week, it's going to be pain-in-xxxxx to update all my sceneries to the new msfs2020 ground imagery and deal with the slight offset in some world area. In France, it's something like 1 to 1.5 meters offset.

But at the end of day, I think it should be beneficial for the whole community.

Does anyone have any color correction settings they can recommend using the mod with the Bing maps? As seen in the comparison image below I have a slight blue tint compared to the real image and just looking for alternative settings to try out to reduce it a bit.

for starters, you will never achieve the real-world tone in msfs, after the huge SU16 downgrade. I’d, however, recommend you increase green slider a bit with trial and error. not sure, tho, if it’s reflected realtime in the sim or you ought to restart the sim each time you have the slightest change in the mod settings. furthermore, instead of bing, you’d better try google’s free-stream which has better looking tiles around the world overall.

aligning the both sims tiles set is not a bad thing and people, along with the game developer itself, in particular the third party developers will benefit it more than anyone else, the thing here is more that the aligned tiles quality is mostly real bad and the sim no longer supports 512x512 high resolution tiles as of SU16.

Thanks for your suggestion, and good thing I am not aiming for the impossible task of a perfect match in colors, only small improvements potentially. Taking a chance based on your username that you might be from Norway as well. Does Google work well for all of Norway? My main flying is done within Europe and mostly scandinavia for the most part. And if you by any chance have some exact settings available, that would be an added bonus. Small adjustments with this mod is sometimes quite different than the exact settings you have had good experience with.

Does "texture resolution" affect the terrain texture sharpness?  I know LOD does..

I'm really at the end of my rope with this degraded texture situation, and it seems to be really bad on the latest beta for 2024.

I've just dropped £3000 on a new gaming rig, cranked everything up to High or Ultra, and have a LOD of 400, and the sim looks like this.  Is it just me?  Is this what it's supposed to look like?  I remember Flight Sim 2000 looking like this.  Fiber internet.

It looks like we are being nerfed further for the PS5 release.
