Amazing immersion of XP12

We are close to perfection when talking about immersion. Thanks to the fantastic work of Laminar 🙂

Totally agree — there’s a lot to like, and it’s great to see how far things have come. The level of detail and the overall experience are really impressive, especially with the lighting and weather systems.

The shimmering issue, especially on fine details, is pretty well known. While it can be distracting at times, the other positives more than make up for it.

Hopefully Laminar will smooth this out in future updates, but overall I’m really enjoying the sim — great work by Laminar!

What in the video is bait - not sure I understand?

That YT'er needs to listen to Ben's comments on what is AA artifact and what isn't.

I know the YouTuber mentioned AA Where Ben says the shimmering is down to the new lighting - is that the bait?  Otherwise I thought it showed XP12 in a good light.

Absolutely, that was also my idea. By the way he is quite a good streamer; I just discovered his channel a few weeks ago.

It's been mentioned several times that the new lighting is causing the shimmering. The sim already looks impressive, but it's going to look truly amazing once TAA and multi-core support are implemented. The updated graphics coming with those improvements should be amazing!

Interestingly, MSFS2024 has just received some more negative news: according to the latest update, the Map Enhancement Tool now states that MSFS2020/2024 no longer supports high-resolution textures.

I’m glad I made the move to XP12 when I did, especially with all the downgraded features and restrictions showing up in MSFS lately. A lot of these changes seem to be aimed at maintaining compatibility with the Xbox — but disappointing for PC simmers looking for maximum realism.

A shot in the dark, but when reading between the lines, it could be a subtle needling toward a select few people on the other side of the flight sim fence.

I just put it down to banter from this side.  The people in question (3 of them) are continually rage baiting.

Goran is on it - the video is fine, and I honestly appreciate the enthusiasm towards X-Plane here...but this one reminded me of a certain member on the other side of the fence that will regularly post threads to the tune of "XXXXX is the best civilian flight sim (and blows the competition out of the water), and this proves it!" in their forum... and then waits for some of "us" to bite - and then the mud slinging ensues 😄.

Interestingly, I didn’t really anticipate any pushback—until you pointed it out. But now that you throw it out, I think that this may very well trigger some negative reactions and somehow hijack the spirit of my thread. I thank you for that 😉

p.s. You really shouldn’t be so oversensitive. Otherwise, every positive comment from users highlighting the good aspects of XP—especially in a forum dedicated to it—would come across as inappropriate. It might be worth reconsidering such reactions in the future. Thanks.

We all know who you're talking about 😄. This guy really is a f@nb0y with no technical understanding who is hard to bear.

Ah yes.  Indeed, we are definitely thinking of the same person.

...so now exactly like expected after a certain intervention here, the thread turned into what I didn't want it to turn. By poking the bear, the harm is now done. I appreciated some constructive reactions pointing out to some parts of XP that could still be improved etc. But as expected, one toxic comment turns the whole into toxicty....that's unfortunate.
