MSFS 2020 Sim update 16 and NZ POI?

Featured Replies

Just a note that over at the official forums it appears that this issue is also related to DX12 for some strange reason. Unfortunately my sim does not want to boot with DX11 so I can't test this.

  • Thanks for the info. It's still surprising to me that those pointers take that much disk space. Good to know when you don't use them and need to save disk space.

Update: This issue has now been logged as a bug by the mods over at the MFS forums: https://forums.flightsimulator.com/t/su16-reproducible-ctd-over-nz-south-island-with-nz-pois-and-dx12/732728/25

Hi all

I just received the below for the support team at Microsoft

My guess is that it will be quite a while before Microsoft supply a fix, so we will need live without the POI in NZ for a while.

Thanks for all your support and suggestions with this.

Best wishes.

Hi Rlaycock,

Yes, that is right you will not be able, for the moment that would be a workaround, the team is aware of this and is investigating the cause of it. You can try using DX 12 without frame gen to see if it persist or just DX 11.

The issue will now go through the Bugs and Issues Review Process and will be first examined by the QA team before reaching the development teams and Microsoft. Once a fix is ready, it will be included in a corrective patch.

Given this change, we will be resolving your current support ticket.  When issues are logged in our internal bug tracker, we will mark your ticket as "solved". This doesn't mean that the issue is solved, it just means that there are no more information we can provide to you regarding the matter.

We appreciate your understanding and cooperation in this matter. If you have any further questions or need additional assistance, please do not hesitate to reach out to us.

Disregard post as it’s back to the CTDs. 😌

It's been interesting observing pilots on Vatspy disappearing from the screens when they encounter the "Marlborough triangle" and disappear.

I think that I may have sorted the issue. I used Corsten's cache removal tool (in the UI mode) and selected items 1 to 6 in the list. I had done this previously (after a new GPU driver release and after the update) However I did not use item 6 ...clearing the scenery index. Since doing this I have successfully spawned and flown at NZNS and completed a NZWN to NZCH flight that caused CTDs previously. I am a tuber so I havent got "down and dirty" to check out if the POI's are actually there or not, but i did reinstall the NZ POI update prior to running Corstens tool.
It's early days but it does seem to be working so far for me.

The tool is available on Flightsim.to

Regarding the DX12 without frame gen suggestion, that does not work for me and I still see a CTD.

I have also cleared my SceneryIndexes but that does not resolve it either.

I can confirm on my end that booting into the sim with DX11 instead of DX12 also resolves the CTD issue over NZ.

Hey all,

It seems in the DEV notes of the SU16 update that just dropped today, there is a fix for 'POI crash issues'. Could this be a fix for all the troubles people mentioned in this thread?

Hope some NZ users can report their results for everyone's knowledge. The NZ POI update is a big chunk, so good to know it's working properly before installing.

Thanks a bunch!

Hi Sadly not for me

1/ I reinstalled the NZ POI

2/ Tried to load the sim from NZNS

3/ got a CTD shortly after entering the aircraft.

4/ Tried again with the same result.

5/ Uninstalled the NZ POI and loaded into NZNS with no issues.

Thanks for the heads up and hopefully Microsoft will evidentially fix the issue.

Best wishes.

Bob

Hello,

I had the same issue. Uninstalled the NZ POI (around 5GB) and now successfully completed a flight from NZWN to NZQN.

Try to click the three "dots" on the top right hand side in the content manager, to be able to select the content within the WU containing new zealand.

Were the physical POI models gone from the sim or just the labels?

Hello, Thank you for the tip. It worked and I am no longer experiencing CTDs (for the time being...)

I have been experiencing an identical problem with West Coast of the NZ South Island. This problem occurs from NZMJ (grass field north of Milford Sound to the top of the South Island. No amount of problem solving changes the constant failure. However, I can load scenery from Invercargill to north of Christchurch.

Any suggestions would be really helpful.

Thanks.
