Your opinion on a unique AIRAC db for FS2024 and addons?

Featured Replies

I've been wondering for a long time why all the add-ons we use can't be synchronized with a single and unique AIRAC database.

With FS2024 and its excellent flight planner, I think the time has come to have a single, monthly-updated database that all the payware add-ons we regularly use could rely on. This would have enormous advantages:

1) synchronization would be automatic for all addons with each release cycle

2) a single database format would be used by all addons developers

3) We already have the LIDO charts we can use in the excellent FS2024 flightplanner

4) It would be free

Do you think we could achieve this in a near future?

At the very least, we could let the user decide whether to use Navigraph or the FS2024 database, which I believe this one is the optimal choice.

I'd love to hear your thoughts on this.

We could achieve this now, if developers used the database that is already available and up to date in the sim. Obviously for developers who are using their own external database, then this represents

FS2024 database

FS24 and in kind FS20 doesn’t have a queryable database like navigraph it has an API through simconnect or through the avionics framework written by the working title team.

Unfortunately this means building out a new layer to parse all of this which is quite a bit of development work from devs end.

what you’re proposing is more than possible but requires quite a bit from developer’s to implement and even so, there’s some lacking granularity in the navdata API compared to querying the navigraph-supplied DBs that some other devs can comment on. From memory (i think dont quote me) one example is MSFS not properly encoding GBAAS approaches

Er... we already have this in FS2024...? The only problem is that some addon developers keep on supporting Navigraph only. But other than that we already got what you want... Or am I missing something here?

No, you are right. That's why I asked your opinion. You could keep both databases and let the user choose.

Navigraph is a really good solution as it's very cheap for you get.  I think you can still buy data only for extremely cheap.  Otherwise with charts/data it's like 9 EUR/month or something.  That's about the same cost as a meal for yourself.

Otherwise, 2024 uses LIDO which covers a lot of common airports that an airliner would fly into, for free.  I'm actually amazed Microsoft has pulled this off.  If you fly GA outside of the USA there will be missing charts/data.

Funny i just bought a year sub for Navigraph last night.

It's integration into MSFS is awesome!

Still undecided on a better than vanilla ATC solution though.

I can only buy for 11€/month or about 96€/year. It's not so cheap...

Where can I buy airac data only? I'd use LIDO charts on MSFS2024.

Navigraph: they offer a Navdata-only subscription for around $30 a year. There's no monthly subscription available for that option. That's what I have.

I've been using Navigraph since 2006 (when you purchased charts). No more hunting the internet for airport charts that were 10 years out of date, just use nDAC.

The integration of Navigraph's navdata, charts, and SimBrief with aircraft navigation systems can't be topped, and is worth every penny (if you can afford it.)

Hard to believe its nearly 20 years ago. At the time I'd bought the Level-D 767 (my first airliner) for FS9, and Radar Contact, and was wondering why procedures in the FMC were different to the charts I'd found. Richard Stefan's AIRAC data really helped!

Go to their website and sign up for an account. Go into your account and it will tell you that you have no active subscription with the monthly and yearly option. Below that in blue text you should see:

"Get a Navigation Data subscription"

This is the only way to access it.
