AI Traffic in MSFS Still Falls Short After Five Years

There’s nothing to stop you going back to P3D if that’s your thing? That’s unless it’s been fossilised.😊

Well, not really, P3D it's still being used (do a search for it), and maybe that help you think something's relatively old works way better regarding AI Traffic simulation that the newer FS20 and FS24.

Using AIG in 2020 I don’t see many of these problems. When AI spawn at start the gates come out to greet them at most airports. I almost always see the gears. I see touchdown effects, not always accurate for conditions though.

unfortunately MS still is unable to allow AI good logic for taxiing and arrivals. I also miss the days of AFCAD when you could easily edit parking spots, and there were even methods to allow crossing runways in heavy traffic conditions to ease backups. Also there was program in FSX could use to speed up taxiing, for not as many go arounds.

I am not sure if it was a dream or it was for real, but I also remember the ATC being able to vector you to final in FS2004. Unfeasible today...

But if you land at any airport, none (!) of the ai planes has a jetway connection. Place yourself at the departure runway of a large airport and watch the ai planes taxing towards the runway. You can't miss the landing gear issue.

The FSLTL+GAMod+ CombineAIFlowGroundController combo works great for my specific AI traffic needs these days.

Enough airborne and parked traffic to feel immersed while the performance tax stays very low.

This combo helps mask the AI traffic issues in MSFS2020 enough for me to no longer care about the flaws.

Best of all....they are FREE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!😁

I've been using FSLTL for years now after a short foray with Simple Traffic in 2020.  I always wonder if the reason MS/A has not dedicated to address AI traffic shortcomings, ATC shortcomings, etc has to do w/ how many people are using 3rd party solutions and have been quite happy with them, including yours truly.  I also use BATC and between those two 3rd party apps I'm not missing anything personally in this domain and I'm sure that applies to many others.

Your points only concentrate on what you can see at airports. But the inadequacies continue in the air. Unless you uses live traffic the behaviour of aircraft is also ridiculously bad.

They travel too slow, at the wrong flightlevels, don't observe seperation, atc does not tell them to either.

In short the entire system needs a complete redo.

As far as I know the developers are aware of that and have been trying to hire an AI programmer for quite some time. And they have started to chisel away at the problems, but it is a slow process and it is unclear how far they can take it in the future.

Those are the two things I use, BATC and FSLTL, and when I read all the issues that people are posting on this thread, it sounds truly strange, because I see none of them.

I wish that to be true for me too.

So, BATC solves the problem of AI planes jumping off the ground before rotating? Landing without flaring? Stepping up and down slopes unrealistically? Landing on whatever runway they like? If that is the case, then I need to investigate further.

I hear you it's bizarre and makes me wonder, what?  How come you're not using a 3rd party option?  I can see Xbox'ers demanding default to run better but come seems like almost everyone here buys planes and scenery.  Even early on when I used 2020's default ATC it was not all that bad.  ATC was calling out and choreographing AI traffic surprisingly well, calling out the correct airlines to 'Line up and wait', and often if I was tailing an aircraft on final ATC would actually instruct it to land and so avoid needing to give me the go-around which was great.  Might have been a coincidence but it happened several times.

Someone mentioned FSTraffic is 50% more performance friendly than is FSLTL and they were using it with BATC so I need to check that out as it's compatible w/ 2024 as well.  On sale now for $29.99.  FSLTL is very decent though and has no issues w/ landing gear, jetways will auto-connect and performance is decent for sure.

I think that is more of just some number pulled out of a hat. The AIG model set is also better frame wise than from FSLTL as both AIG and FSTraffic models are up to standards with the SDK. FSLTL models only have 2 LOD's which is why the landing gear stays visible longer but are harder on performance because of that.

Thanks for that.  Can you also recommend FSTraffic?

I don't see why you would when it has maybe 20% of the liveries that you get from AIG as well as missing quite a few airline models let alone any of the bizjets, GA and cargo etc that you get with AIG.
I bought FSTraffic on day one and keep it up to date just to be able to compare them for myself but I don't use it at all. It simply doesn't bring ANYTHING to the table that I don't already get for free from AIG.

People talk about better performance from FSTraffic, but it is after all injecting no where near the same levels of traffic.

I agree native AI capabilities are subpar and if this issue has not been addressed until now, I don't think it ever will so in my simulation environment AI has been disabled....permanently.

After installing SU3, whenever the aircraft spawns on a runway, looking down the runway and around the airport, I see formations of airliners flying in all of sorts of directions like military aircraft squadrons.  Within a few minutes, they go away but now it's time for aircraft landing on taxiways and waterways....and successfully at that 😀  This one made me laugh so much that it's almost, but not quite, worth having this problem.
