Simcharts vs. FSWidgets EFB

Recommended Posts

Guest Serte

Good day. I'm looking to augment my FSX with a charts package, but I'm not sure which one to use at this point.I'm running:Q9450 on ASUS Maximus Extreme w/4GB2x9600GT (non-SLI)+ Matrox TH2GO - six monitors totalVista x64FSX w/AccelerationI fly worldwide. Is anyone running Jeppesen SimCharts on Vista x64? What are your experiences with install? Jeppesen currently does not support this platform, but I have a hunch it works.I know the FSWidgets EFB is also out there - and looks like a great tool with incredible extensibility. Too bad you've got to get most of the charts yourself.Which do you think I should buy? Thanks in advance for your opinions and advice.

Personally? I run a laptop connected via wireless LAN when I fly. I offload all the "dirty work" like weather, FSInn for VATSIM, and FSCommander to give me an idea of where I am in the world, on the taxiways, etc.As for charts, I still do it the "old fashioned way" and download what I need right from the web. For taxxing and such, I use FSCommander with moving map to see where I am on the airfield till airborne, then I mostly use the various FMC's in flight. If I need a chart, I call it up from VATSIM's chart finder and print it out.My only problem with the SimCharts is they come to you already out of date, with NO way of updating them. With my method, you ALWAYS get up to date AIRAC's and info.
