F-102A Big thank you to Kazunari Ito, Bob & Michael

Recommended Posts

A swell aircraft in FS9, and now in FSX thanks to Bob.I did take the liberty of increasing the "thrust scaler" entry a bit.Hopefully a little panel work might improve it even more. Now, if we could just find some good analog gauges for FSX applications in a Jet of this breed. The Concord engine gauges are pretty, but non functional (at least for me so far.) If someone knows of some N1 and N2 analog gauges that might be applicable, sure would be appreciated.I would also like to replace the airspeed gauge and/or add a mach gauge. Unfortunately the overspeed ribbon blocks out the Mach reading on the present gauge, and it doesn't go above 0.99 anyway. The "MACHMETER.gau", a round analog unit; and the "mach3d.gau", a smaller digital gauge work well in FS9, but are too old a design to work in FSX. If anyone knows of similar gauges that can be implemented in FSX, I sure would appreciate the heads up. The same goes for the N1 and N2 engine gauges (analog). Now for a bit of boreing nostalgia: More years ago than I will tell, I had the pleasure of being a fire control specialist (Radar) on these birds. How things have improved!!!! Thanks to Michael Pearson, textures have been included for the 64th Fighter Interceptor Squadron (along with a world of others). When I arrived at McChord, the 64th, 317th, and 318th were based there. Almost immediately best I remember the 317th moved to Anchorage (In my ignorance of Alaska, like a dummy I didn't volunteer for the transfer). They made a consolidated maitenance group for the 64th and 318th, later to be divided (I went with the 318th). I could be mistaken, the consolidated and divided assignments may be reversed, this old memory does not remember which was first. Later was transferred to Travis when the 106's came in. I don't believe there is a texture for the 318th yet (hint hint).Again, Thanks Kazunari, Bob, and Michael. I envy your talentRespectfully:RTH

Judging by the lack of response to this post, this may be futile, but in the event that anyone is interested, here are a few tweaks to this bird that are an improvement to these old feeble eyes anyway. Thanks to nostalgia, I want to hang on to this contribution and enjoy flying it. So, for that it might be worth to anyone, here goes:As noted in my original post, the N1 and N2 engine gauges did not work. The fuel flow gauge did not work either. I downloaded b737_200_fsx_v11.exe from the FS2004 AvSim Library, and replaced those three gauges with the following:gauge08=PS737CA!PS737N1GAUGELEFT, 798,428,60,60 gauge13=PS737CA!PS737N2GAUGELEFT, 806,557,60,60gauge12=PS737CA!PS737FFGAUGELEFT, 727,554,60,56Being that I used FSPanel Studio for editing, your "gaugexx" numbers may be different. In addition, you will note that I traded places on the panel with the N1 and FF gauges so that N1 and N2 would be side by side rather than being separated by a fuel gauge. The Fuel Flow gauge has no scale on it making it somewhat useless although it now does respond. There would probably be a better replacement for it. However, with the RKG Fuel STAT gauge directly below it it really is not necessary anyway so I chose to ignore the candy. As I also mentioned in my original post, the overspeed limit marking on the airspeed gauge blocks the mach readout. I replaced this gauge with, "gauge37=CONCORDE!Airspeed, 326,425,105,105, which really has the same problem (Does look a little better in my opinion though). Therefore, I added the Concorde Mach Gauge:gauge36=CONCORDE!Machmeter, 195,525,90,90I made a few other edits that are to my personal preference as follows:gauge30=Toggles!Toggle05_Icon, 410,385,20,20gauge31=Toggles!Toggle06_Icon, 430,385,20,20gauge32=RwyInfo!V1, 279,379,98,30gauge33=Toggles!Toggle07_Icon, 450,385,20,20gauge34=SimIcons1024!Map Icon, 575,385,20,20gauge37=SimIcons1024!Avionics Icon, 595,385,20,20gauge38=Cessna!Avionics Switch, 579,656,22,42(Window05) The parenthesis should be bracketsfile=RADAR.bmp size_mm=298,332window_size_ratio=1.000 position=0visible=0ident=10006window_size= 0.340, 0.406window_pos= 0.666, 0.569gauge00=F16!Radar, 2,2,293,264gauge01=F16!Radar Mode, 54,284,64,25gauge02=F16!Radar Range, 176,284,64,25//--------------------------------------------------------(Window06) NOTE: The parenthesis should be bracketsfile=DF182_TIMER.BMP size_mm=117,105position=3visible=0ident=10005gauge00=SuperTimer2!SuperTimer2, 0,0,113,102//--------------------------------------------------------(Window07) The parenthesis should be bracketsBackground_color=2,2,2 size_mm=156,308window_size_ratio=1.000 position=8visible=0ident=RADIO_STACK_PANELwindow_size= 0.180, 0.442window_pos= 0.820, 0.558gauge00=Bendix_King_Radio!Bendix-King Radio Audio, 0,0,156gauge01=Bendix_King_Radio!Bendix-King Radio Nav-Comm 1, 0,29,156gauge02=Bendix_King_Radio!Bendix-King Radio Nav-Comm 2, 0,86,156gauge03=Bendix_King_Radio!Bendix-King Radio ADF, 0,142,156gauge04=Bendix_King_Radio!Bendix-King Radio DME, 0,180,156gauge05=Bendix_King_Radio!Bendix-King Radio Xpndr, 0,217,156gauge06=Bendix_King_Radio!Bendix-King Radio AP, 0,262,156My birds were also a bit weak relative to power, barely supersonic if at all. Therfore I added the following to the aircraft.cfg file:(jet_engine) The parenthesis should be bracketsthrust_scalar=1.527Yes, it is overpowered at takeoff, so it is a tradeoff between speed at altitude verses takeoff power, but this (at least presently) is my choice. My logic was as follows: From debriefings long past the interceptor runs were made quite often by a snapup method at speeds up to mach 1.5 (assuming this old memory remembers correctly). I set the power to be capable of maintaining mach 1.75 at FL400, just below overspeed limits. They do struggle to reach speeds anywhere in this range, but thanks to the snapup runs, I strongly suspect this was the case real world as well. Now to do something about the fuel capacity/fuel burn. The thing flys for what seems forever firewalled with the afterburner lit. If per chance a crew chief, pilot, or anybody else knows the specs for this bird, it sure would be appreciated. (Max. range, fuel capacity, fuel burn, max speed, etc.)Happy flying:RTH
