FSX crashes only when changing date and time

Recommended Posts

I have the oddest thing going on. My FSX with sp2 is running really well. I've got many addons and everything is functioning very smoothly. Flights go really well in various aircraft. My rig is an Alienware dual core x6800 2.93 GHz with 2gb ram and the Nvidia GeForce 8800 GTS with 640 mb ram. The only glitch is when I try to change the time or the date, FSX crashes to the desktop. Now, when I reload and perform the same function, it loads fine. Can anyone offer some insight into what is going on? Is it a memory problem? Is it the video card? This will happen regardless of location, the airport doesn't seem to matter. All drivers are up to date and I defrag regularly. I also brush regularly, pay my taxes, make the bed every morning, feed the dogs regularly, watch my cholesterol and work hard, but I don't think those affect FSX performance do you? :-) Any help or ideas will be much appreciated.Lee

I suggest you ask Microsoft this question That is a new one to me.

Hi Lee."I've got many addons"One of your addons are messing with the sim. I can cause a similar crash when using effects that call library objects, and are specific to a month ( as allowed by effects ). So my guess is a scenery BGL is causing the problem.Use the Scenery Library, and uncheck all the addons, then test. exit the sim, go to the Library, check one, then test. exit the sim....Eventually, yo'll find the problem scenery folder. Then eventually, you can find the specific BGL.If this doesn't find it, then you most probably have a difficult addon aircraft. Use a similar approach to isolate it.Let us know what you find.Dick

LeeDick (rhumbaflappy) is onto something, it sounds to me like one of your .bgl's is causing the problem.Specifically traffic .bgl's can do that. One time, the sim may load fine. Another, no. I have seen this happen and the cause has been a bad traffic .bgl. The variance--the seeming randomness of the crashes--is because at various times, AI will not always be flying the same routings at the same places. That's why it is random. That has been my experience with the problem you are seeing. Disable scenery add-ons one-at-a-time in Scenery Library and see if you can isolate it.RhettFS box: E8500 (@ 3.80 ghz), AC Freezer 7 Pro, ASUS P5E3 Premium, BFG 8800GTX 756 (nVidia 169 WHQL), 4gb DDR3 1600 Patriot Cas7 7-7-7-20 (2T), PC Power 750, WD 150gb 10000rpm Raptor, Seagate 500gb, Silverstone TJ09 case, Vista Ultimate 64ASX Client: AMD 3700+ (@ 2.6 ghz), 7800GT

Thanks for the tips guys. I will try your suggestions. I'm going to start by shutting off all AI at first and see where that goes. If not I'll look at the other ideas. I'll post my result in case it will help someone else.Lee
