Spotty - your MSFS plane spotter and scenery explorer

Well, let the developer respond to that but if spotty is an external app it doesn’t have to go into the Community folder at all

Please respond, that's not clear enough, because if the addon is activated within MSFS it couldn't be started-out before firing up MSFS, so it's not really an external app. I'm confused.

Sorry for asking too many questions:

(1) What's the preferred controller type used to move inside MSFS in all directions (keyboard?). In case the keyboard could be used, the movements are possible by using the MSFS drone camera system?. Please explain.

(2) Could the user aircraft be spotted from any previously created airport viewpoint, or only AI aircraft?.

Thanks in advance.

I need a bit of help here, @rksoftware

MSFS2020 seems to work a bit better than MSFS2024 but, even in MSFS2020 I find that:

I can:

- choose a POI or a 3D City and clone there at the height that I've put in the app screen.

- ascend, descend, rotate, move forward and backward and sideways from that point using the triggers and joysticks on my standard gaming controller.  Great!

I can't :

- get the Spotty view of any of the airports...unless I pick the nearest POI and then just travel there!  I can turn airports on, search, get it to show me that airport centered on the Spotty map with the red pin marker...but clicking on that marker does nothing...I cannot get the Spotty red-doughnut to lock onto that point whether I click Spotty View or not.

Very frustrating and I am wasting too much time trying to get it to work.  What am I doing wrong?

For those of you that has starting issues with Spotty:

https://www.flightsim4fun.com/Forum/viewtopic.php?t=1248

Reading the Spotty documentation is a must to use the app.

Using a XBOX controller is the preferred way to navigate in Spotty, but keyboard can also be used.

A new updated and improved Spotty will be sent out to all customers in a few days.

You can also reach out to rksoftware support via the email you find in the link above.

1) XBOX or simular controller type, but keyboard keys can also be used.

This is stated in the Spotty documentation: If you click the Spotty View button when Spotty View is active (green button) you will go into Drone View. Another Spotty View click will take you back to Spotty view.

2) Spotty is for AI airplane spotting and scenery spotting. When using the rksoftware Spotty "airplane" there is no user aircraft to be seen as it is invisible.

@rksoftware can a person record a landing, pull up a saved position in "spotty" and watch the replay of the landing?

No, that function is not in Spotty.

Spotty is an external app , but it uses an invisible aircraft (rksoftware- Spotty) that must be in use in MSFS before most of Spotty's functionallity can be used. The rk-spotty folder be in MSFS's Community folder and selected in MSFS.

You are not teleported to the airport by a left click at the red airport marker. It will only zoom into the airport on the map. You need to make a right-click at any location in the airport area and click the  (Re)Set button.

This is all described in the Spotty documentation.

In the Spotty update coming in a few days, clicking on an airport marker will directly teleport you to the area.

The above hints and tips and the additional documentation has helped a lot - thanks

OK - armed with the clearer instructions and some of the further explanations above, I have spent an hour - across both MSFS2020 and MSFS2024 - experimenting, now armed with the better understanding of how to use it....

.... and I think this is a splendid app!

It will be a great addition when I move across from my recent large jet flying IFR back to VFR.  What a great way of not only finding great places to fly, but also to then be able to quickly and easily 'fly' a route and familiarise with landmarks, etc..

I'm glad those tweaks have been put in from the last update - and very glad of the clearer instruction - but consider me very pleased with this addon, @rksoftware

Glad you like it, tell the community about ,  more users will mean better and more features.

Spotty will add new useful features for AI Airplane spotting in the next release coming soon.

If you like Spotty you'll love FStarter24 that has a lot more features and some of the same.

Hi, I just purchased this but after trying it out I have some questions. It looks great but these things are bothering me.

What is the difference in spotty view and ai traffic? when I load the map and click on an airplane what view do I use?

How can I stop the plane from jumping around? it's very distracting and really takes away the fun. The dox says turn down your fps but I have not found a way to do that.

Which is the best way to watch an ai plane fly from gate to gate. Do I use the fstl traffic board, spotty view or ai planes button?

Why do some planes just disappear into thin air?  I was following a plane and then it just stopped and I had to reload spotty

How can I use the keyboard to change the angles. When I am in spotty mode the plane view is distorted and I want to be able to zoom in and out or up and down. In spotty mode I can't move the camera at all and in ai planes view I can't fully move the camera either.

That seems to be the big ones for me for now. I really would appreciate any help thanks
