October 7, 2025Oct 7 No, just no! This is what irritates me about Tesla, great cars, great performance... but the total obsession with minimalism is just bonkers. 👎 Stalks work, they were invented for a reason. And gauges right in front of your eyeline work too. Sodding around with minuscule buttons for indicators in the British Isles, when we spend a lot of time driving around islands, requiring indication with the wheel still turned is a pain in the neck when you have baby buttons for indicators. And no, why the hell should I have to look to the left at a big screen to see how fast I'm going and other functions when an instrument cluster between the steering wheel works perfectly and just requires a slight redirection of ones gaze? And don't get me started on the pathetic yoke instead of a steering wheel, fitted to some Tesla's. Utter stupidity and just there to attempt to make it look cool. What its all about is cost cutting. Eliminating as many instruments, switches and buttons as possible and whacking it all on one screen saves them money. One day, Tesla might cotton on to the fact that drivers who have spent big bucks on a car like an interior that gives them a nice feeling when they step into it, impresses them with design and technology. Compare this dog poo to the screen shot below. Much more expensive of course, but you don't see those manufacturers providing such a dull experience because people appreciate art, and at least some effort put into design. Here in Aus we have a whole "new" system of cameras that peer into cars to ascertain whether or not a person is using their mobile phone. So it's illegal to even be holding, not using, a phone but entirely acceptable to have the driver faffing about with those 'iPads' most new cars, not just Teslas, have installed. They aren't at all distracting, right? Brilliant. We are ruled by stupid people. Personal opinion, of course. October 7, 2025Oct 7 I hate computer flat screens for vehicles...they require you to look over, reach and stay looking to get the right thing to press and voice stuff is amazingly annoying. A visual reference is one thing but this is nuts in my view. My 2005 GMC Sierra has a combo digital analog display...when I want to change the temp, one quick look and I don't have to stare at the "screen" to adjust, just turn the knob. We do stuff now just because we can not because it's safe or reasonable. I'm sure there are accidents related to folks staring at their screen too long, ie distracted driving. cheers..
