Absolutely, and that's exactly my point. (unless you're actually being sarcastic, in which case kudos)

The dark aluminium plates that make up the panel are depicted as a flat, matte surface. But they are actually quite a complex surface in real life. In certain lighting conditions they reflect light a little bit and also take in the shadows more. What it does is give more of a variation to panels that might otherwise just look flat. Like I said, the reworked Fenix cockpits show this beautifully and I'd argue a masterclass in what modern materials could achieve.

But hey look you'd be right in saying who cares. This is about flying planes, etc etc etc. I'm in total agreement with this.

However, this is my point. Robert has been on record in several interviews, including this one, saying that PMDG has specifically worked hard to go all-in on better, more modern workflows. Embrace the MSFS SDK and really look at the standards of the market set by other addon makers.

Off the back of that, I would have loved to be blown away by the contrast between their old version and this one. There's clearly room for them to do better visually, and wouldn't it have been great if they could really show what they could do. Instead we got basically the exact same thing as 2020.

Ultimately, I just want the 737s in 2024 so from that point of view it's fine.

I noticed the same things in the videos. Hopefully it’s just not evident with YouTube compression. After flying these things for multiple years and then looking at the cockpit modeling in the pmdg, pmdg does make the panels look flat and lifeless. Even when I fly new MAXes, those untouched painted panels still have a life of their own in regards to lighting.

It is what it is unfortunately if they didn’t go all in either the artwork.

In one of the streams, they still don’t have the engine simulation indicating EGT rollback during spool up. I’m sure there are other things that are missing that were missing in the 2020 version. However a lot of those small things would only be noticed if you have experience on the actual plane.

FAA: ATP-ME, 737 CA, enough time in the 757/767 to be dangerous 🤠

  • Then of course the obvious counter argument to your point.  Why is PMDG themselves making the 747-100/200/300/400?   I'm not going to pretend the newest airplanes do not sell in the largest numbe

  • While I'm happy that Boris made an amazing soundpack I don't think this should be the norm. It's a near $78 product with average, near borderline mediocre, sounds, we should keep pushing PMDG to do be

  • I've had a PMDG 737 since FS9 and will always have it no matter what version. It remains the gold standard.

The one thing that I can gripe on is the landing gear disappearing at very close distance. (Something by that up until now was only seen for Ai traffic, so congrats PMDG!)

Not a huge deal for me but that’s gonna kill any content being made of the exterior lol

edit: though some other shots I’ve seen the landing gear loads in like normal..🤷‍♂️

I just want my DC-6 already.

Is the release for the 800? Or are they going for the old trick of offering the 700 first? EDIT. Ignore. I see that it is indeed the 800 first. Good.

You, me and many others too. I did ask the direct question whether PMDG intended to bring the DC-6 to FS24, but was met with official silence, so I'm inclined to write that prospect off. PMDG products are superb, but compared to the likes of Just Flight, A2A and Burning Blue, their customer engagement can be lacking at times. Anyway, in the meantime, I shall look forward to my FS24 737-700 at least.

Surely not everybody was kung fu fighting.

100% agree on that, their modelling is really good but it’s like they didn’t include or didn’t master how to use the layer in the texture that tell how the light bounce on different materials, not an expert on that but it’s the best way to describe how I see it.

Like you said Fenix really nailed it on that aspect.

Not sure I want to pay more than 10$ for an interactive cup of coffee!

I’m wondering if this isn’t a symptom of a replay tool.

A more concise review of new features in the 2024 version [...]

Now this is an excellent feature showcase video on what to expect and makes the update sound more substantial. Do I still think it's comparable to what was offered by the likes of Fenix and JustFlight for free? No, but that's neither here nor there. This update brings in a lot of features that I think many here will appreciate and it is ESPECIALLY grateful to hear the the new CDU is in development.

I do think that, it's a bit of a shame for some of the 2020 users that won't receive a number of fixes that aren't specific to FS24 that Mathijs has said won't be ported back.

Now if we could get non-winglets options... but I'll take what I can get haha.

Forgive my ignorance. Will the new CDU be an updated software version of the CDU do we think? I’m thinking re: my Winwing device here and the layout of the buttons!

I wonder when we get official word of the release of the PMDG 737-800, along with the upgrade price?
