A fairy tale with a happy ending

Featured Replies

Little Red Riding Hood never liked market place in MSFS. She used it in MSFS 2020 but avoided it if possible because of file encryption, which made tweaking almost impossible. When 2024 came out, none of her 2020 purchases were transferred to 2024. And then there was the impossibility to opt out of credit card data being saved. Hence, Little Red Riding Hood never bought anything on the 2024 market place up until today.

But today, the big bad wolf tempted her and offered a flight sim sale. Her resolve weakened: some items were deeply discounted, you only can get them on MP, and she really liked them. But luckily, Prince Microsoft came to the rescue. When her weak spirit tried to enter her credit card details, he did not let her change the country from U.S. to her home country. Prince MS stated she should do that in her MS account. So she tried that, but lo and behold, it was already set to her home country.

Little Red Riding Hood cried bitterly, but then she realized that her mother was right all along when she warned her of market place. Not only did she escape the big bad wolf, but she also saved a lot of money. To celebrate her rescue, she opened a bottle of wine and shared it with grandma.

The end.

Could you change the story to be more in season maybe with a turkey or Santa Claus?  🎃

Since you were asking for it ...🙂

The next morning, Little Red Riding Hood asked Santa for help. Santa jumped on his sleigh and rode to the Xbox support center, where an elf named Agent Virtual attempted to assist him.  Elves from the Virtual family are generally very knowledgeable, but not that smart. Agent Virtual told Santa to check his Microsoft account, but that was what Santa's question was about. So Santa asked for more help, and the elf suggested to contact the Xbox support center.

Then Santa got very angry and demanded to contact a person rather than a virtual elf. To his big surprise, the elf opened a magic window that promised to connect him with Microsoft's top specialists. After 15 minutes of waiting, he got a message that they couldn't answer his question and connect him with an Xbox specialist. He agreed and was transferred back to the elf.

After that, Santa decided to put Microsoft on his "bad" list. He returned to Little Red Riding Hood to tell her about his adventure, and they all lived happily ever after.

If you know Asterix, this is like trying to get a permit A 38. The most bizarre thing about this is that my MS account even has my credit card details stored already, probably from when I bought MSFS 2024. It's just that Market Place doesn't want to know about it.

Multiple purchases in the Market, not a single problem ever.  The End....

If the wolf is so bad....

Personally I like to spend a little in the store. Helps to keep the big wigs interested, investing in the ongoing development.

Yep. All the cool dude stories of how bad the Marketplace is are one big yawn.

You want development to continue? Buy something from the Marketplace.

I have no problem with the Marketplace, and have made multiple purchases from it.

The one problem is that updates are slower to reach the Marketplace than they are directly from developers stores. This isn't so much an issue with airports/scenery, but can be quite annoying for aircraft - in the case of A2A it took almost a year for the Comanche to be on the same version in Marketplace as direct from their store.

This is much much better now. The new updates are out on Tuesday and Thursday, and ini for example can have the update out maybe a day or two later than on their own store. No longer days and weeks later. Still a bit slower but nothing too crazy anymore.

I really like the Marketplace, for scenery. Aircraft I always purchase from the developer but I always try to get my scenery from the Marketplace. First, it is almost always cheaper than other stores, and second is absolute ease of installation. It takes 30 seconds to enable a scenery from the Marketplace, no installing. I really have come to like it.

MSFS 2024. Primary Planes: Black Square TBM850, Duke, Baron, Caravan; A2A Comanche; FSReborn Phenom; Fexix A321; PMDG 737-7, 777: Utilities: Active Sky (Passive Mode); BATC, FSLTL.

Another one of these, eh? Airing of only grievances is the norm around here.

Hey. I only use the MP if I have to. Rather directly support the dev and have the latest version. People also want to protect their intellectual property and sell from the marketplace only. I can respect that.

All of my 2020 (Steam) purchases were transferred to 2024 (Store) automatically with no work or effort on my part, they just showed up in 2024 all by themselves. Exactly as Jorg promised again and again that they would.

There is a reason for why they were not transferred, and in my view it was Microsoft's fault. But I don't want to open that discussion again.

However, there is no happy ending anymore to my fairy tale: while MS support (like every time I contacted them in my life) was unable to help, I found an old post on my beloved Avsim forum that did the trick. I had to change the region settings on my PC. I had to reinstall Windows completely about 1-2 months ago and had left that setting on U.S.. Why did Market Place point me to my MS account instead? I presume it has something to do with X-box compatibility.

Moaning about the marketplace and blaming it on the Xbox. Shall we go for the full trinity and complain it is becoming more of a game and less of a simulator 🤣

It is interesting how people always blame the marketplace for this and not the developer. For 2024 MS now release how long it has taken from the final submission from the developer to being published on the marketplace. It will be interesting to see how many aircraft get held up by the marketplace for months under the new system
