The South of England - Part II

Featured Replies

Please note that this flight was originally scheduled for Saturday, December 13.

The flight originally scheduled for today has been scheduled for Saturday, December 13.

We continue our tour around the south of England.

Departing from Fairoaks (EGTF), we overfly Guildford Cathedral and turn west for our first landing at Farnborough (EGLF). From here, we head to the coast and land at Goodwood (EGHR) and Shoreham (EGKA). We overfly Brighton and the Ouse River Viaduct (...probably the most elegant viaduct in Britain) and head north to see Leith Hill Tower before landing at Redhill (EGKR).

Pay attention to stay low as we cross the final approach into Gatwick! Leaving Redhill, we track north and land at Biggin Hill (EGKB) before reaching London. We overfly Welling and arrive at London City Airport (EGLC). From here, we head northwest and land at Elstree (EGTR). On the way to Fowlmere (EGMA), we overfly the St. Alban with the Cathedral. After Fowlmere, we turn south and land at North Weald (EGSX) and Stapleford (EGSG). We land at Damyns Hall (EGML) and finish the flight at Thurrock (EGMT). We fly as far as we can in about 2 hours and continue at a later date.

The flight is 200 miles long with eleven landings. The flight plans are here.  The flight plans for the GTN end at EGMC because EGMT is not in the GTN database.

We want to fly low and slow. Choose your favorite aircraft cruising at about 100 knots. It could be a biplane, an ultralight, or any other slow GA airplane of your choice. I will be in the Draco. Please fly whatever you like.

Additional scenery:

Goodwood EGHR

Shoreham EGKA

Redhill EGKR

Biggin Hill EGKB

Damnys Hall EGML

Fowlmere EGMA actual state

or

Fowlmere EGMA WWII state

Elstree EGTR

North Weald EGSX

Stapleford EGSG
