PMDG 737-800 Set To Release 2025/12/18

'After months of previews and careful expectation management, PMDG has finally put firm context around its upcoming Boeing 737-800NG for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024. In a lengthy developer update published today, PMDG’s Robert Randazzo confirmed that the aircraft is now deep into the final stretch, with a provisional release date set for December 18, 2025, sometime after 17:00Z.

This development update also offers a good picture of what this new 737 actually represents, with PMDG framing this release as more of a ground-up redevelopment intended to reset the 737 product line for the MSFS 2024 era, instead of a simpler compatibility update.

In his statement on the PMDG forums, Randazzo openly frames the existing PMDG 737 for MSFS 2020 as a product of its time. Released in mid-2022, it arrived when PMDG was still learning how far the platform could be taken. According to the developer, the announcement of MSFS 2024 created a natural breakpoint, prompting the team to rebuild the aircraft with long-term maintainability and platform parity in mind.'

And what will the upgrade cost (= discount)? The fact that they don‘t talk numbers three days before indicates it will be a pretty high price and they are looking for impulse purchases.

I mean there‘s no more talk of „price of a coffee“, by now it‘s „full price but a „substantial“ discount“. That sounds like 30-40 dollars, which would be outright ridiculous for an update that encompasses about 2 big Fenix updates (which were free (!)).
Will I pay it? Of course, what else can I do.

Of course I‘d also be happy to be wrong about the price… but it‘s the fourth time or so PMDG drags their 737 to a new simulator and previously it was always a hefty upgrade fee, so I can‘t help but see the pattern.

For transparency: I'm a community mentor at the BATC discord. However, I do not get paid for it in any way.

I will have a very happy Christmas if the 2024 version of Chasplane also releases on the 19th🤪🙃😉

Quote from the man himself on the official PMDG website so take it for what it's worth.

What Will it Cost?: Pricing will be in line with previous products, but will be finalized upon release.

Will Previous Owners Get a Discount?: Yes. We will be offering a substantial discount to both PMDG.com and Marketplace customers of our MSFS 2020 737 products. The discount will be the same for all four 737 products and for all customers whether they come to us from PMDG.com or MS Marketplace.

Will The Discount Apply Across Purchase Venues?: No. In order to receive your discount, you will need to purchase the new version in the same venue you purchased the previous version. PMDG.com->PMDG.com or Marketplace->Marketplace.

Will the Discount Apply to Un-purchased Products?: No. In order to receive the discount on the 737-800, for example, you must have previously purchased it for MSFS 2020.

Pricing will be in line with previous products, but will be finalized upon release.

I guess the price is $74.99, and the upgrade price is $49.99

Mmmm let me think… not upgrade?

So you complain and yet still going to buy it? No wonder how PMDG gets away with it.

Personally, unless it’s a 10 usd-ish upgrade fee, I will just stick with the iFly

Cheers :)

That's what I expect from the people who forget that their boss did set a margin with his coffee statement for the update price.

Even at 20 bucks I would feel ripped off. But since there is no alternative to a decent NG in the sim I will buy nontheless.

No need to build castles in the air until we know the upgrade price. It's worthless!

I will be paying for the upgraded versions of the -600 and -900, even if it is more than the price of a "couple of cups of coffee". The PMDG 737 has been my steed of choice since the FSX version way back in 2011, and nothing is likely to change that. However, it looks like my Christmas flying is going to be dominated by the 777F, since that is the only option that I have with respect to MSFS 2024 compatibility.

That's it right there. People ask why not just get iFly, but... it's a Max.
And no cargo or BBJ variants to boot.

Exactly. I have the IFly and it's good, no doubt. But I'm a stickler for flying real world routes with the correct equipment. I need an NG as well to be able to do that.

I’m the same. Ifly is ok, the update in development will make it better.  But I always fall back to my NG!  Can’t wait.

50 dollars is one expensive cup of coffee.
