PMDG 737 MSFS2024 "Mini-Review" after my first 17 flights

Huh... okay. I didn't double check. I was indeed inflight in the 772 when I pointed that functionality out and simply assumed the 737 has all the same functionalities.

Yeah might want to double check before making assumptions. And even in the 777 it wont actually load the pax and cargo you set in the flight plan progressively.  Its a half baked feature thats pretty much useless in its current state.

I’ll be doing a review similar to this in a few days. My review will be from the stand point of my opinions of the PMDG bird having logged a substantial amount of time in the real thing as a captain.

My PMDG experience so far has nothing of the OP's listed items. All of it is great. They have been a solid product since FS9 for me. I never communicate with the company. I never need to. Nor do I car

Wrong again.

It's kind of painful to see how much of the functionality of the EFB you missed since it was released.

The functionality you are looking for is under Automated Ground OPS tab in the EFB.

What's painful is how wrong you are actually.

This is not directly related to the PMDG 738 2024, but I had to rush onto AVSIM and to this thread to say that @Christopher Low is definitely onto something with this potential temperature/ground movement issue in 2024 !

I just flew the Fenix to Yakutsk (coldest city in the world), which was at -41C 🥶

After landing and departing the runway, I stopped on the taxiway, holding the brakes.  When I let the brakes go, the Fenix started moving, relatively quickly at idle thrust (flat ground).  I added a little power to get up to 20kts but then, with entirely idle thrust, the Airbus worked it's way up to 34 kts!

It didn't behave like that at my departure airport (where the temp was 3C), so there is definitely something amiss with 2024's behaviour in the ground in very cold temps.

Did your Fenix A32X have IAE engines by any chance?

IAE's apparently have a much higher idle thrust over the CFM's and they are known to be a handful during taxi because of this.  Fenix supposedly models this well but in my opinion I feel its a tad exaggerated.  For example the A319 with IAE engines you almost overheat the brakes from constantly applying them and if you look away you will be doing 40 kts in short order.  The CFM engine versions don't do this and a heavy A321 is not as bad but the A319 is a handful.  When I have flown on A319's for reals with IAE engines it did not seem like the pilots had to apply the brakes constantly like you do in the sim.

I have a bit more info about the possible low temperature thrust issue in FS2024 and the PMDG 737-800.  I loaded up the plane and selected Cancun airport.  I set weights for MTOW.  This time I found the behavior of the aircraft much more realistic.  It would not move on its own.  In fact I had to spool it up to 50% N1 just to get it moving.  When it finely started moving I had to reapply thrust fairly often to keep my taxi speed up.  This is much more realistic behavior in my opinion.

Will be testing this out some more when I have time.  I think it is more likely a sim issue or limitation than a PMDG problem but I don't know?  I really never noticed it with other planes before but I have only been using FS2024 fully for the past few months.

So tried to do another flight which is my second after my sim CTD 3/4 through that flight.  The autopilot is doing s-bends like the freeware aircraft back in MSFS20.  I re-did the same flight with the Fenix and no problems what a pile of rubbish this a/c is.

Are you applying the correct procedure? You let the speed go up to 30 knots then you brake once until you are at 10 knots again.

Airports where I have noted this strange effect to date....

  • FSim Studios BGGH Nuuk International
  • Gaya Simulations EFIV Ivalo (hand crafted)
  • Aerosoft ENGM Oslo Gardermoen
  • MM Simulations ENTC Tromso
  • ORBx ENTO Torp Sandefjord

All of these are located in relatively cold locations, and require the date to be shifted to between March and May before the effect vanishes. The other 49 airports that I have checked have been fine.

It did not occur at BIKF Keflavik in Iceland, but maybe all of that underground heating is keeping the place at a comfortable temperature

Farlis once told someone who said, “If I recall correctly…” that, “You recall incorrectly…”…🙂…if I recall correctly…

Actually being around in Avsim for a significant time, I tend to use that phrase sometimes, and these days I am being a bit extra careful…🙂

To be honest, Farlis is usually correct…Oh well…seemingly not this time…

19 flights in 12 days. For sure you won't keep that pace but anyways you are going to book a lot of flights during the next 3-4 years.

So in fact, the cost per flight will be less than peanuts.

In your case, $30 are well invested to have the 737 in your sim.

Thanks @Tuskin38, and no, it's not AI written. Just my very personal view on the PMDG 737 for MSFS2024.
@Christopher Low you're right that going really slow like just 5kt or slightly faster reduces the scrubbing sound. Guess I can't take 15kt turns anymore lol
@ahsmatt7 thanks a lot for your R/W insights on that topic.

Glad, you came back to see what has happened to your topic…

Cheers…!

I think you're perhaps gloating a little too much 😊

You said that it wasn't possible to load payload in the PMDG 737 using the EFB, only the FMC.

What you meant was load payload progressively, with a time simulation.

You can load the payload using the EFB but it's instant.

No, it was a real-world S7 Airlines flight, with the CFM engines  👍

PMDG doesn’t have a separate “online model”. The way online aircraft appear to other users in Multiplayer or when on Vatsim is controlled entirely by MSFS itself. If the PMDG appears with gear down to other players, that is something that only Asobo could address.

Ok, the same model with LODs or whatever, specifically for represent their aircraft in online to other users, that, yes, can be called online model, if they don´t have that well done it is their bad development in that aspect.

And PMDG aircraft/software in your PC, is who send to the server/FS24 what the PMDG plane is doing, if they fail in that, PMDG is who fails also, and that in the second video, in the first video with their own original 738 plane and not the default online from Asobo, the fault is totally from PMDG sure, other developers do it well with all the moving parts.
