Cutting Holes With a Chain Saw ...

Recommended Posts

Guest Fly1

Got a question regarding GMAX and cutting holes. I am trying to cut intake holes in a cowling, and they look fine in GMAX, but when viewed in FS2002, it looks as if they were cut with a chain saw. I am using the Boolean subtract, which seems to work fine, but...Any comments would be appreciated.Bob C.

Hi Bob,Try converting the object to editable poly before the Boolean operation for best results, and back to editable mesh afterward.Milton

Quite a strange result you have there - and in some ways quite impressive! It really does look like ripped metal!Everything mentioned already is valid, but the fact that you don't see the ripping in gMax but you do in FS2002 indicates that something is getting altered in the export process. It looks like you have a very dense mesh (ie high polycount) and the vertices in the edge are so close together that MakeMDL is merging them together during the optimise process that it goes through. With points jumping into each other some of the triangles might be collapsing. Try welding the vertices in gMax in advance and see if it makes any difference.Have funFinn

Thanks for all the suggestions. I also am suspect of the conversion and optimizing during transport. Hmmmmmmm...Bob C.
