January 10Jan 10 Dedl, Several folks in another forum were giggling and discussing how you were experiencing multiple problems with your new installation of FS9 on Windows 11. Don't listen to them. While Windows 7 was always the best platform to run FS9 on, FS9 WILL RUN on Windows 11. However, you may have some issues with your payware FSX converted sceneries for FS9. Not sure why. But some tech savvy guys have stated that Win 11 is good at sniffing out all kinds of software it deems harmful or controversial. These new AI algorithms are something else. Hope you get it figured out. Edited January 10Jan 10 by PebbleBeach

January 15Jan 15 My "Holy Grail" has for 20 years or more, always been the very original Win7 installed driectly from the CDs on a self built and still extremely fast/efficient desk top machine, without it ever having any internet connections whatsoever. Moreover, my hugely expanded FS9 has always run perfectly on this machine and although FS9 itself may now be "old", it's definitely far from being "dead" - - - yet !! It will only die when I do !! All my FS9 and other software downloads were/are always done via a separate (now Win11) laptop and are then transferred to my FS9 machine via a memory stick. Still works perfectly on all fronts and this setup has definately kept me off the streets and out of sleasy bars during all those years !! LOL. Long live FS9, especially in combination with Win7 !! Hans

Hans Good for you Hans!!! I totally agree. Win7 hands down is the best system FS9 ever met. Fluidity! Thank you sir.
January 18Jan 18 Not sure as to why Win7 is supposedly the 'Holy Grail' of OS's. I've been running FS9 ever since Win11 was released, with never an issue at all. I've been running 5-6 separate unique themed installs of FS9, spread across my C:\ drive (SSD) as well as my D:\ drive (2TB portable), with plenty of both freeware & payware scenery & aircraft). I've had FS9 running on Win7, 8, 8.1, 10 & now 11, & have found that things happen quicker & smoother of Win11. Having said that, my laptop is a Ryzen 7, so Win11 is perfectly 'matched' to the hardware. Robin "Onward & Upward" ... To the Stars, & Beyond...
January 19Jan 19 Hey there Robin, I agree with you that running FS9 on any later Windows version than on Win7, will definitely not cause problems of any structural nature. However, many "hooked" FS9/Win7 users like me, have for many years also been downloading/installing aircraft, sceneries, utilities, etc. which were primarily developed for pre-FS9/Win7 versions and it's especially these that can potentially cause some unpredictable problems under later versions of Windows. I also agree with you that being able to utilize more than a single processor core for running FS9 under any later Windows versions, will cause it to run "quicker and smoother". Fondest regards and happy landings. Hans

February 14Feb 14 I liked Windows 7 because it predated all the annoying bloat that followed. It just worked in the background and did its job. I would love to still have it, but realistically that won't happen. Instead I put up with all the annoying pop-ups that interrupt my work, telling me things I just do not want to know. I have spent much time working out how to turn most distractions off, but it shouldn't be like that in the first place. Something that goes with getting old is not liking change. Especially when it is change for changes sake - usually with the sole intention of extracting something from your wallet. February 15Feb 15 Did anyone use Windows 8? I upgraded out of curiosity and installed a Windows 7 start menu and interface but still reverted back to Win 7. Now it seems totally forgotten, and for all the right reasons.
February 15Feb 15 Ya, I updated(?) from Windows 7 to Windows 8 then to 8.1. I had no issues with running FS2004 & CFS2 at the time. If I remember, I used a Start Menu replacement. Robin "Onward & Upward" ... To the Stars, & Beyond...
