The Just Flight one (50-70 series) had a Honeywell HT9100-style FMS/CDU (see image below). Just Flight also had the (10-40 series) supplement to cover the entire range of DC-8 variants. I was regularly flying both the JF and Aerosoft ones... were good enough for the time...It will be so nice to see better textured versions of this classic, hopefully, in MSFS someday... Always dreaming here...🙂...but more likely, as Ryan says, we will see (yet) another B737 or A320 variant first in the SIM... Aerosoft: Just Flight: Nice one
January 23Jan 23 The current b727 from FSS is a very good aircraft. Detailed and pretty high fidelity. It would not be very difficult for this developer to go to a 707 and also to a DC8. I do agree that Just Flight seems to have very good luck with excellent vintage planes such as the F27 and the B146.
January 23Jan 23 “Rust buckets” can indeed be a nice change from highly automated modern airliners. I’ve had the thought that I’d love to see a repaint for the FSS 727 freighter in an untitled, rusty, super sketchy looking paint scheme so I can pretend to fly it on some nefarious flights. I own the Aerosoft one and it's great. But does the FMS actually function in the JustFlight one? Rhett 7800X3D ♣ 96 GB G.Skill Flare ♣ Gigabyte 4090 ♣ Crucial P5 Plus 2TB

I only have MSFS2024 now. However, from what I recall from the Just Flight DC-8, it had a functional representation of the Honeywell HT9100-style FMS/CDU...note the mention of "-style" in the product description, which might mean it was a simplified simulation of the FMS. I wish I could check it on my FSX PC... So, you still have the Aerosoft DC-8-50 available for flying now...? That's great. I was getting some (expert) tips here in the Screenshots Forum on that (Aerosoft) DC-8 INS system from a RW 747 pilot about how to use both the INS units to monitor drift and take corrective actions...on long-haul flights... but I've forgotten all that by now...🙂...Anyway, I recall he had indicated that Aerosoft had done a good job on the INS system part of simulation.

I was flying the ultra-modern A350 today myself... Well said

Yet here we are... All the modern airliners are really just shades of gray from their respective manufacturers (per IRL design intent). It's gotten boring, frankly. E.g., even tho I will promptly snap up the PMDG 744, it will only be out of nostalgia/affinity for the airframe, and not anything to do with operating Yet Another Boeing. The old "rust buckets" from back in the days when there wasn't a practical monopoly on large aircraft had different style and their own quirks & charms - the things that made them interesting to operate, rather than just a flying pre-programmed computer. I'd like to see a DC-8, for sure. It could be a Hi Fi addon or a well-executed Famous Flyer-ish. At least with the "rust buckets" we don't need to listen to all the armchair experts moaning about VNAV and AT.

A good friend of mine once said that classic aircraft like the Concorde, DC-8, etc. are like 'Big Cessnas' - allowing you to practice the fundamentals of VOR navigation, ADF's, etc. but on a larger, faster moving aircraft 🙂

After all, the beauty is in the eyes of the beholder…🙂…
