MSFS2024 City Update 13 - California

Featured Replies

That's amazing, thanks! Now - what about a proper version of Alaska, fjords, islands, upgraded airports, bears etc? (obviously accurate terrain and imagery rather than cities...)? Parts of it aren't that bad but others are pretty poor.

Some POI listed in the public announcement are not only photogrammetric derive objects: https://www.flightsimulator.com/city-update-13/ one easy example is the Coronado bridge at San Diego. City

Care to expand on that? I really struggle to see how an update that makes California look more like the California we see irl, makes things seem more cartoonish.  This is a huge boom for VFR flye

It looks very nice from the video, but I'm surprised they still haven't addressed the tree size issue.

The trees in some of the scenes are four times bigger than the nearest building! Who knows, that might be the case in places but overall it still looks very wrong. I know this complaint is as old as the hills, but why can't they concentrate on fixing global tree sizing as that would bring a lot more realism than anything they can do in localised updates.

Anyway, I'll do some exploring tonight 🙂

I use Seasons Enhanced 2024 by Bijan Studio to address the tress in MSFS2024. It does a good job and is always updated.

This is not true. There is an executable in the root folder of all Modern Cities packages that allows you to disable certain cities and POIs as required so they don't conflict. (for LA you can disable SoFi stadium)
Make sure you've updated to the latest version of MC.

Thanks for this, I never would have thought to look.  I had disabled every city from Vol 1 as LA did not play nice with the update.

There's a simple .exe file in the scenery folder, just run it, uncheck LA and Sofi stadium and that seems to work great.

Hopefully Samscene can patch LA, it didn't look like it was terrible, just a few duplicate objects and buildings.  One obvious one is there's two antennas over the Hollywood sign.  It still looks like the Samscene scenery has a lot of things not included in the MS update.

At least now I don't have to lose the other cities in the same pack as LA now though.

Moving the SSD cities/city packs lower in the scenery order does clear up many of the duplicates etc... Similar to the Vegas issue. SSD SF looks pretty clean with no duplicate bay bridge etc

I tried putting my samscene folder at the end of the list (z_samscene-etc) and was still seeing the duplicate Bay Bridge. Is this what you were describing?

Ryzen 9 7900X, Corsair H150 AIO cooler, 64 Gb DDR5, Asus X670E Hero m/b, 3090ti, 13Tb NVMe, 8Tb SSD, 16Tb HD, 55" Philips 4k HDR monitor, EVGA 1600w ps, all in Corsair 7000D airflow case. Sims in use - 2020, 2024, XP-12 and -11, FSX/SE, P3Dv4.5 and v5.4. DCS and AFS2 installed but rarely used

Use the package reorder tool in FS24. Settings-Advanced Options-Package Reorder Tool on. Use arrows to move scenery down the list. I placed just above the asobo-travelbook entries.

Same with not seeing B-52's at March AFB. I grew up down the road and drove past it all the time.

Same here! When Mrs.Stoopy and I lived in Mentone it was always quite a sight to see them right after taking off from runway 06.  They always appeared to be descending ever so slightly toward the orange groves, heading right for our house then slowly pull up and continue south.  I was lucky enough to shoot two landings in the C-141 simulator there on base. Good days.

Use the scenery order tool. Move the SS3D Volume 1, 2, 3 or whatever down the list as far as you can. I've done such and the duplicate Bay bridge is no longer. There is however a slight alignment issue on the east Island side of the bay bridge. Also running with PG on.

Palm Springs is still full of totem pole Palm trees unfortunately.

That will probably never be fixed. Just one of the a downsides of Photogrammetry

The scenery order tool didn't seem to work for me in LA.  I still had some duplicate objects with Samscene LA.

Just to add I did a check of the LAPD Hooper Bldg and the heli pads are rectangular and elevated off the building itself.  I've added this to an ongoing thread on the inibuilds forum so if any of you can add any other issue/s related go to the above thread.

Is this to not see SS3D?  IMHO, SS3D is better than what Asobo provided … so assume I’d move it up the list not down?
