787-9 Dreamliner for FS24 - Project Griffin Announcement

I hope this is real.  But it reminds me of this funny meme done some years ago at the dawn of MSFS 2020.

I had a funny feeling their website's yellow text looked familiar LOL

This isn't always the case. Bluebird Simulations allowed people to fly their 757 at the last Flightsim Expo. Looks like Bluebird has something solid. Fenix also ended up being a solid developer. And we will see what happens with Synaptic, but they have the backing of iniBuilds now.

Of course, there are others that failed. But I would characterize it as a glass half full, rather than a completely empty glass, for these MSFS type announcements.

  • Interesting. I'm always cautious when new dev groups appear and try not to get overly excited. Devs like Aerodynamic's, Bluebird and Synaptic Sim come to mind. Still waiting, but hopeful. Wishing

Totally good to have the cynicism and keep expectations controlled.. but in terms of images, the one they posted above is actual in-game screenshot it says.

And re: their track record, see my post above about what FSElite says, apparently the Vector devs being active for a long time already behind other projects and aircraft. We'll find out I guess.

The issue i have with FSElite statement is that there is no specific  previous reference project or person to fall back on. Its essentially a "trust us, these guys are good".

If they are that good then provide some material to fill in the blanks such as examples of previous work and the like.

I cannot get excited over 1 exterior nose shot and the Dev "actively" withholding their identity even though they are declaring they are veterans within the industry.

The other red flag for me is setting a "coming  2026" date.. If you are going to throw that date out at least make it appear credible with something more than 1 solitary image of a part of the exterior model in your press release.

Just my opinion. I am 100% sure some will disagree and are excited but yeah ... this press release and first impression is not doing it for me.

And hopefully the press can provide a little more substance to this project and who is developing it since they should be at fsWeekend.

Is someone about to announce that an announcement is coming soon, revealing that a possible release might finally arrive after several more delay announcements? That's how I might have tried to generate hype 30 years ago.

The thing about the first two devs is that Bluebird "Sherv" belonged to a very respected team that demonstrated competency. His project may be slow but i know his standards are high based on this past work and i get the impression that Bluebird presently is not a large group. So i'm willing to give some deference to them there.

Fenix .. complete unknown ill give you that but when they showed up they quickly put  their money where their mouth was with their video previews to indicate that what they were going to release was to be taken seriously.

Synaptic ... I've personally soured on them...  too many promises too many deadlines blown ..... with or without  iniBuilds backing.

Hopefully they will include service based failures, wear and tear! That way it wont be another boring-liner. Just look at the tfdi md11. Not a single wasm crash so far in multiple flights of 10h+ and failures that keep you on top of the plane, monitoring its systems and parameters to make sure nothing weird is going on.

We are pleased to formally introduce Project Griffin, our upcoming Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner

And I’ll be VERY pleased to purchase it when available.  After the Quality Wings development group decided to not move their 787 to MSFS 2024, this will be MOST welcome.  I’ve frequently flown on this aircraft to/from Europe and think it’s a far better aircraft (as a passenger) than an Airbus or 737 (any variant including Max).  Very comfortable, very roomy, and much quieter.

I must admit, I’ve always been a little puzzled why PMDG didn’t go with this aircraft once they discovered Quality Wings will not be developing one for MSFS.

A simulated version with more depth than what MS/Asobo provide is most welcome … thank you and looking forward to it.

Honestly. Anyone remember how Aamir showed up in a Reddit post, then three weeks later they launched? It was very similar and who here can say it wasn’t one of the best things that’s happened to this hobby.

I hope they follow the same foot steps.

Whilst I am not a big fan of these modern displays that can render multiple images on the same screen, I did enjoy flying the Quality Wings 787 in P3D. I particularly liked the sound of those Genx and Rolls Royce engines, so let's hope that this product lives up to expectations

The answer to your main question is Yes. We have team members that have worked on many aircraft over the years for many sims and in particular FS20 and FS24 with extensive knowledge of the aircraft and sims.

We have active 787 pilots on our dev team also.

I'm sure you have been around for a long time but welcome nonetheless.  I am very excited to learn more about your project and fly the product you delivery.  We (I) need a really good solid airplane like this in my collection.

Much appreciated!

I’ve always maintained that the 787 is the perfect airliner for flight simulation, the real aircraft is probably 50% aircraft 50% flight simulator.

Nearly all aircraft functions, and certainly all the major ones, aren’t separate systems and  physical units like on conventional aircraft. Rather they are simply software applications , known as “hosted applications “ running on 16 GPMs general processing modules, in 2 CCRs common computing resources cabinets.

In short it’s half physical aircraft and half software, not too dissimilar to my full motion , force feedback sim rig !

So, I’ve always thought simulating the 787 would be a case of software emulating software , quite a pure method in comparison to software simulating physical hardware.

Even the dang landing lights on the 787 are completely a function of software. There’s a visible lag from flipping a landing light switch on until the switch command has been processed by the computers then sought approval from the power management software and finally the light will come on.

There’s also so much information you can access through the maintenance pages , I hope all that gets simulated.

Exciting times.

I'm puzzled that PMDG never made a 757 or 767. I've owned the PMDG 757 back in the Fly!2 sim days so the 757 is no stranger to them.

They’re actually really good Chris, it’s a more military aircraft style of flying.

I’ll have the doors and fuel pages up in front of me during boarding, then the electric and hydraulic pages up during engine start.

They’re also good when running a non-normal checklist , you can have the checklist displayed next to the relevant system synoptic, it ads clarity.

Hopefully it turns out to be a promising project.  Our hobby is somewhat young after being born again so we are bound to get some really good but new developers.  I remember when the Fenix A320 showed up and a lot of speculation that it was going to be garbage and that it was a stolen port from XPlane.  Now look at how good it is?

I definitely agree the 787 is a very important airplane for flight simulator and so far it has been mostly absent.  Yeah we got the default 787-10 and the modifications to it have been amazing but it still has its limitations.  I think Qualitywings fall out has a lot to do with why we don't have a serious study level 787 by now.  Now that it has been a few years and we know Qualitywings 787 is not coming its about time someone picks it up.  Hopefully we get the 8 and 10 as well at least eventually.  The 787 is one of those airplanes that you just can't have one version.  The future of the line is actually expected to be mostly the 10 since Boeing is getting the gross weight up.

I actually love total surprise launches...  Mike of Lotussim did it with his L39 for FSX... had so many ground breaking things in it!  Actually I think someone at SOH found something and posted it and then he came and posted about it hehe.
