787-9 Dreamliner for FS24 - Project Griffin Announcement

I totally agree with Peter regarding a factory fresh aircraft. I like my planes clean and tidy, and whilst I can accept a bit of weathering, it annoys me when developers put smudges on the windows, or beat up part of the VC to make it look worn. When I buy a new car, I expect it to be clean, polished and dirt free. The same holds true with my simulated aircraft. I don't care if it's a Boeing 707 from the 1960s. When I buy it, the plane is new.

  • Interesting. I'm always cautious when new dev groups appear and try not to get overly excited. Devs like Aerodynamic's, Bluebird and Synaptic Sim come to mind. Still waiting, but hopeful. Wishing

I like IniBuilds solution that they implemented in the A340 and A350. Weathering and Dirt by slider. You can make the plane look new and dirty or old and shiny if you want to.

Agreed, I like making the old A340 filthy 😀

Now that you say that, I'll need to give a try with an Air France bird 😆

Exactly. I cannot stand the worn condition of the MD-11.

yay I am not alone, I work in corporate aviation, and OUR jet must be clean each flight and our mx guy cleans the gear, brake dust, wheels, body wing etc every trip... and if it gets filthy while being out on the road, then it gets washed, no exceptions. I know people who fly a BBJ, same deal a corporate 737 will look factory new every day. If I owned a ga plane I would do the same like I do my car it's cleaned all the time. A 707 same deal and for those of you pointing out that airlinerers are filthy it depends, out of Renton, or PAE no they are spectactular same as when a new paint job is applied, so I argue no on that to GIMME THE CLEAN JET FIRST and the painters can make it gubby if they want, same with ASOBO THANK YOU for giving us clearn base models. and PMDG clean all the way too.. haha, thanks for that....

Airliners and airliner flight decks are horrible grimy things.

It was always a treat to fly something that had just been delivered.

In terms of aircraft decks being pristine or worn, I guess it could also be tied to the IRL aircraft they have available to scan in 3D and do whatever other digitization processes? I'm far from an expert in 3D modelling/visualization, but is it fair to say that the higher level of visual detail they they aim for, then the harder it becomes to stray away from the actual IRL aircraft (and its level of newness or worn state) that they are using to model the sim one?

This influences highly, no doubt.

My “favorite” examples of over-grime are the DCS F-14A and the DCS F-4E.

Naturally, the only reference examples they have are literal museum pieces, and the result is cockpits that look like desert Bone Yard birds.

its almost like they’ve never seen a factory fresh aircraft cockpit (and in the case of HeatBlur, that’s entirely possible 🤣).

So while these addons are otherwise magnificent, the cockpit art is “inaccurate”.

In the 767 and 777 flightdecks I see, I can't say they are grimy. The bodies are dirtier than you'd expect but nothing crazy like some people on this site want. The MD11s and A300s are usually worn but not dirty. When PanAm went out of business, those 727 flight decks looked incredibly used and dusty, but not a pig sty. Probably the most grimy, dirty cockpit I'd seen was on a 152 during flight training.

If dirty cockpits are true (as I haven't seen them) then some of these folks making 200-400K flying and leaving dirty flightdecks really should be addressed IMO. There isn't much you can do with the exterior dirt. (Well fly through some rain clouds lol)

With the 787 being a relatively young airliner, I wouldn't expect to see a really worn-out cockpit.

Look at the back of the rudder recess on the 787 , it’s got a thick layer of dusty fluff !

The relatively new flight decks on the 787s  look a lot more beaten up than the 25 year plus 747s I used to fly, but those things were top quality!

We don't have 78s (sadly)! I'll trust you on the massive dust bunnies!

I was once in an EVA 74-4 and it looked pretty well kept for the time.

The ATRs we fly are grimy and worn out, but they’re not littered with garbage or anything like that.  They’re dusty, with dirt in recesses.  The plastic is cheap and faded.   One of our ATR72s has the “Airbus blue” interior and it’s about forty different shades of blue.

We found a bullet in the cargo bay, so I had it up front to throw out when I could which is the reason for the picture, this is the centre console on one of our machines.   Dirt, dust, faded plastic, worn switches…. It’s a 30 year old airplane that flies every day. spacer.png

The aviation world is really grimy/dusty... It's a miracle to find a spotless Airbus cockpit these days, including some of the new NEOs

For the exterior though, I think inibuilds' solution (adjusting slider) is great
