Efficiency of resizing gauges?

Recommended Posts

I know that a gauge can be built to be a certain size (say 100x100) and it can be installed in a panel at a smaller size (say 50x50)via the settings in the panel.cfg file -- but is this efficient ? Does it slow FS2002 down in any way? -- I can imagine that it would be preferable for a gauge to be designed and used at just 1 size -- but is it in any way important to do this? Thanks Barry

As for speed matters, at least with 'C' gauges, it does not matter since before FS displays the gfx from a gauge, it first resizes it all to the intended destination, and then, at each refresh cycles, it uses the already resized gfx. This is why with heavy loaded graphic gauges, when switching from window mode to full screen, there is a latency (it streches all the bitmaps of all the loaded gauges (even if not displayed) in the background)As for aesthetic matters, the problem with the resizing engine is the pixel bound placement of a resized gauge. For example, imagine a 50,50 background bitmap with an icon @ 17,17. Then, resize your gauge to 2/3 of its design size. this leads to a displayed bacground of final sreen size of 33 pixels x 33 pixels and the icon at 11,11 coordinates. if the original 17,17 was chosen for correct alignement with the background image, it might then lead (because of rounding errors) to a mis-alignement in the resulting resized and displayed gauge.Hope this helps!
