March 17Mar 17 I've been very happy with my move to 2024 so far. There are many substantial improvements including, surprisingly to me, performance on my older system. I won't be going back to 2020. That said, @jcomm's link to a recent youtube about ground handling got me to thinking about the two things that have disappointed me. First and foremost is the ground handling issue as illustrated in that video. While there do seem to be minor improvements in ground handling, the issue with crosswinds remains. Please check out the video he linked to as it illustrates the problem extremely well. This is wildly unrealistic behavior and takes a lot of the fun out of crosswind landings. The second has to do with persistence, particularly with Black Square aircraft. Basically, it's completely borked in my BS planes. All planes are back to zero hours at the start of every flight, and most settings, such as chocks, engine and pitot covers deployed on startup are ignored and reset. From discussions on the Black Square forums, Nick is aware of the issues and has submitted bug reports to Asobo so hopefully it will be addressed, but it is definitely annoying. I'm not sure how this impacts his failures logic, but I know that I have not had a single failure since moving to '24, so... Otherwise, loving the sim. Really. Scott
March 17Mar 17 With respect to the ground handling, am I correct in thinking that MSFS 2024 (and MSFS 2020 before it) does not simulate lateral tyre friction as well as it should? I always think that it is too easy to move the nose wheel left and right on the runway when accelerating for take off (a bit like the caster wheels on a shopping trolley). I really wish that Asobo would sort that out. March 17Mar 17 For me is the default ATC & default AI Traffic. Fix this and there will be many happy simmers. I agree that even with some minor issues, v2024 is an excellent sim with all my "paid" add-ons. MSFS
March 17Mar 17 I can't believe I can try these without paying. This AVSIM community (YOU) are AMAZING! THANK YOU! Jose MSFS

This is wildly unrealistic behavior and takes a lot of the fun out of crosswind landings. Isn’t it ironic that the shortest part of the flights at the temporal extremes can have such a big impact? Most of what determines my enjoyment of an addon is determined by how it handles on short final, then (critically) the landing flare, and especially rollout. E.g., I’ve had quite a few addons “ruined” for me because after landing they will lift the nose wheel off the ground at speeds well under Vr/Vmu. How do I know this…? With .mil jets, full aft stick is frequently used during rollout to create additional drag. and it’s amazing the number of .mil addons (and others) where the nose wheel will pop right off the ground waaaay below Vmu. which then brings to mind that quite a few .mil addons simply will not aero brake properly (keeping the nose at about 10-12 degrees high during rollout to…you guessed it, slow down without burning the brakes). Nope - if you aero brake, the plane will just sail right down the runway and right off the end… and still, rudder to maintain centerline during rollout is always a gamble… While takeoff and taxi are important to me, IMHO it’s how the plane handles from the FAF to ground stop that really (dis)engages me.
March 17Mar 17 Weird. For me the ground handling is better in 2024 and feels more realistic. I does tend to depend on the addon though. March 17Mar 17 As a MSFS2024 user since Day 1, I do absolutely agree with @tttocs. Ground handling is generally awful. Even taxying huge airliners on the ground is a messy, slippery, over-sensitive affair. I've spent countless hours tweaking my rudder sensitivities, dead zones, etc, to find that it makes no difference. There's just no sense of weight creating an inertial 'tracking' effect on the ground. For light GA, I tend to find it depends more on the individual dev. Black Square, A2A and FSW plane taxi perfectly well. I probably wasn't as clear as I should have been. I DO think ground handling in '24 is improved over '20, but I had high expectations and in this case better still isn't as good as I'd like so that's where the frustration comes from. Scott
